Report on the @etuc-ces.bsky.social 'Platforum' in Nicosia, where platform workers and organisers gathered from across Europe to analyse the situation and prepare for the Platform Work Directive.

A key theme: "Bogus employment" is no solution to bogus-self employment!

My report for the ETUC on how workers can 'negotiate the algorithm' has been published!

🚨 Our research on unions and organising in India's platform society covered in the media, for which both me and my co-author @islandexpress.bsky.social were also interviewed:

Why Unions Find It Hard To Forge Worker Solidarity In Platform Companies

Students from India are bearing the entire business and legal risk of the German operations of venture-backed food delivery platforms such as Wolt, Uber Eats, and most recently, Lieferando. One only needs to observe the new "fat bikes" on the streets of Europe and ask, who is paying for them?

International student or migrant low-wage worker? Or both? The written and unwritten rules of international student mobility and skilled worker mobility currently operate to maintain a steady supply of low-wage labour to the global North.

A historic day in the battle against bogus self-employment in the platform economy: Glovo, Spain's largest food delivery platform, finally stops using bogus self-employed riders, after a 4-year battle with the govt and hundreds of millions in fines. 🧵
