Enter generative AI in general and ChatGPT in particular. If your idea of learning is scrolling through content and perhaps shuffling it around a little before submitting it back online for your credential, it must seem like a kind of liquid-metal coursework Terminator. Why *wouldn’t* it appeal?

By the way, I say this as a veteran that you've cited as a source before.

I promise you that the US won't somehow fall to *China* if Anthropic goes out of business or Copilot suddenly disappears from your Outlook, but maybe the electricity prices and amount of disinfo slop will drop.

It's really weird, because you guys routinely cover actual defense tech and automation in warfare. It should be clear that the bubble exists because we're over-invested in the wrong technology.

It seems like this article was written with a skeptical look at the market-based perspectives, while acknowledging nothing about the actual technology behind the bubble, its uses, and limitations. This conflation of all AI is part of the marketing shenanigans Sam Altman wants us all to fall for.

Even correlative use cases for AI that have proven useful in all source analysis, GEOINT, etc. for years have very little to do with LLMs that have been trained on petabytes of garbage. There's a reason this sector hasn't found a path to profit, despite tools like Gotham being around since 2008.

There is a very flawed fundamental premise in this article. The LLM industry, the one that is *extremely not profitable*, is where the bubble is at. It has minimal-at-best proven use for defense, and shouldn't be conflated with all AI like you do up top in this.

It's like the show is premised on how these people want to look at themselves and it just feels super masturbatory.

For all that can be said about the ethics of mass surveillance, how does a company that seems to be this *bad* at it seem to get the job?

Bbbbut... skynet. You've seen Terminator, right? Please for the love of God, buy our product. Peter Thiel says you're the antichrist if you don't! I am very much not afraid of this bubble popping. Growth forever.
