I wrote to Amazon demanding answers and a pause on Ring’s facial recognition rollout—and now I’m releasing Amazon’s response. The takeaway? Consent isn’t their problem and widespread surveillance is here to stay.

Unacceptable.

As much as I like to credit the EU with having less egregious privacy violations than the US or UK, but this piece by Access Now is as awesome as it is sobering: www.accessnow.org/eu-abandons-...
One year on, the EU is abandoning human rights
A year into its new mandate and the European Commission is reversing course when it comes to safeguarding human rights in the EU.

Enter generative AI in general and ChatGPT in particular. If your idea of learning is scrolling through content and perhaps shuffling it around a little before submitting it back online for your credential, it must seem like a kind of liquid-metal coursework Terminator. Why *wouldn’t* it appeal?

Started watching the AMC series, Pantheon, and unfortunately, the real life stupidity of the ai/tech industry is really breaking my suspension of disbelief, given how 'believable' the story seems to want to come across. Haven't read the short stories, so maybe those land better.

Germany has the most data centres in Europe — but the boom is pushing its energy grid to breaking point. In hotspots like Frankfurt, power is already maxed out. Read our new investigation with @algorithmwatch.org.

Feds now claim a "system crash" that happened immediately after ICE was sued is the reason why 10 days of footage from inside the Broadview Detention Center has been lost.

Unreal hearing on this earlier:

ICE Says Critical Evidence In Abuse Case Was Lost In 'System Crash' a Day After It Was Sued
The government also said "we don't have resources" to retain all footage and that plaintiffs could supply "endless hard drives that we could save things to."

Great video demonstrating Flock's products' embarrassing attack surfaces and facepalm-inspiring practices. For all the talk of "adversaries" surveilling us, we sure have no problem putting these super vulnerable devices everywhere. What a joke.

GenAI companies are always like “HACKERS from CHINA and RUSSIA are using our AI to do incredible HACKING because our AI is so advanced but don’t worry we stopped them and also we won’t be giving any more details at this time just know our product is DANGEROUS and SEXY, like James Bond”

A report by Anthropic about yet another "AI-powered" cyberattack (powered by their models, of course) is making the rounds. Looks like more fear-mongering. I have instead decided to share this blog post by Kevin Beaumont: doublepulsar.com/cyberslop-me...
CyberSlop — meet the new threat actor, MIT and Safe Security
Cybersecurity vendors peddling nonsense isn’t new, but lately we have a new dimension — Generative AI.

QANON CULTIST IN 2017: "In this 1,879 page thread I will unravel the byzantine system of codewords and phrases the global elite use to mask their pedophile cabal."

JEFFREY EPSTEIN WRITING AN EMAIL AT THE SAME TIME: "helo its me jeff had fun cmmitting sex crimes wit u lst weeknd"
pretty funny in retrospect that QAnon hinged on the idea that powerful elites at the highest levels of government were smart enough to talk in code when sending emails to each other about their despicable crimes

The most horrifying AI slop of ICE raids you can possibly imagine is wildly viral on Facebook, collectively totaling tens of millions of views from a single account. First spotted by @chadloder.bsky.social

AI-Generated Videos of ICE Raids Are Wildly Viral on Facebook
An account is spamming horrific, dehumanizing videos of immigration enforcement because the Facebook algorithm is rewarding them for it.

Went to turn an old Dell I acquired into a forensics pig. I had to get an aftermarket charger. Things I learned the hard way: Apparently Dells have a hardware level block that keeps you from using non-dell AC adaptors? Fuck anti consumer bullshit.
