My take is while I don't always get social cues, other people also do not leave long enough pauses to allow others to process and respond because they are uncomfortable with silences. But we get all the blame whether we interrupt or wait quietly and never end up getting to say anything 🫠😒

As someone who has worked in higher ed the most of my adult life, people referring to students as customers makes me want to scream and throw up. There's a difference between romantic naivete & not viewing everything as transactional & having no value outside of hyperindividualistic capitalism

Have read it now, and great article! I appreciated the quotes from Ashley Shew and pointing out how this fellowship program tokenizes certain disabled folks and plays into stereotypes of ND/autism.
