I'd say it's less about "having to do everything to get it done right" and more "nobody else wants to actually do the work," which lines up nicely with the entitled attitudes lots of people have towards the expectation that GMs should just be hanging out on every corner ready to run games for them
Honestly, it tracks in a hobby that seems disproportionately full (in some corners) of folks who I bet in school hated group work "because then I have to do everything to get it done RIGHT"
