Fun fact, the ISS needs its orbit boosted every so often because in LEO, satellites experience atmospheric drag which makes their orbits decay! 🛰️📉
Per TASS the orbit of the ISS was raised at 1201 UTC Sep 29 using the engines on the Progress MS-24 freighter. Delta-V was 0.55 m/s.

Exactly one year ago today, NASA's DART mission went out with a bang, crashing into the asteroid Dimorphos (which was in orbit around a larger asteroid, Didymos) & changing Dimorphos' orbit. Data from this collision will help scientists calculate how to divert asteroids that could threaten Earth 🧪🔭

As a Ph.D. student, @murryloub.bsky.social studied how barn swallows grow when exposed to light pollution.

When facing the "All we need is STEM!" approach to education, my usual response is: Developing the vaccine was the STEM problem; distribution & getting shots in arms was the Social Science problem; getting people to trust it & combatting misinformation was the Humanities problem-- which did we fail?
