It’s my 25th anniversary of moving to Japan today. When I first got here I was working in an English conversation school in Shibuya. They have torn down that building now but I managed to snap a picture of it last year. Circled is the tiny classroom I worked in.

They are a much less common sight now but a lot of subway stations in Tokyo have mirrors so that you can check your appearance. Also useful for getting candid portraits. #japan #streetphotography #mirror

From the outside, Japanese society can seem homogenous and conservative but anyone who’s been here for more than a few months will tell you that there are some amazing and beautiful eccentrics here.

One of the few things I enjoy about the brutal summers in Tokyo are matsuri - traditional festivals where the gods of the shrines are paraded around in portable shrines carried by the participants.
