Well, as long as you stipulate that anyone who is not a white Christian male is not fully human, and that big corporations are always right, the Trump six can be trusted to deliver extremely consistent jurisprudence

Wouldn't surprise me either, though it seems as though most of the six conservative justices are happy to rule in the interests of whoever buys them a recreational vehicle or a fishing trip, no particular blackmail or leverage required

Not clear that it matters what is or isn't legal based on the actual Constitution and laws; as long as there's a supreme Court that says the law is whatever their master needs it to and an army of masked, armed thugs roaming the streets, it seems like maybe they can enforce whatever they like

Not going to be a difficult choice if it comes to it. As much as I like school shootings and masked thugs kidnapping people off the street, I think maybe I'll stick with my high taxes and single-payer healthcare.

Good point.

I do love the fact that it's still possible—easy, even—to get American conservatives riled up about their children being taught Arabic numerals

Because obviously the story of the deep state cover-up of Joe Biden having been elderly during the previous administration is more urgently relevant.

The media have to focus on what's most important, and they can't cover everything!

Holy shit you mean the dual Canadian-American citizenship I've held for 30 years is invalid?

That said, though I'm no legal scholar I feel pretty confident in my prediction that the current US Supreme Court is gonna say that the law is whatever Trump says it is, contrary to precedent or not.
December 4, 2025 at 1:40 AM
Understandable that the press isn't making a big deal of this, considering how there was almost no discussion of Joe Biden's age, energy level, or mental acuity during the previous administration.

The US media has never been interested in questioning the faculties of an elderly sitting president.

Also most people are not raised plant-based, they may have a lot of memories or associations with certain cultural or family dishes. If they can make their grandma’s poutine but vegan or whatever and that makes them feel good, your job is to shut up and eat your own food.

Wait, do I understand that after the Dems caved on the shutdown based on promises from the GOP that they'd negotiate in good faith on healthcare, the GOP didn't keep that promise?!?

Who could POSSIBLY have foreseen this? If only progressives had warned the Dems!

There's only one guitarist I can think of who can be reliably identified from a single note: David Gilmour. Even a really skilled cover guitarist can't fully reproduce a Gilmour bend + vibrato note.

I think Neil Young is almost as unique and identifiable, but can be imitated with determined effort.

It also matters because it expresses the failure of Dems to oppose runaway inequality.

When Dems telegraph that they won't tax the rich—for example with a slogan of which half the words evoke that policy—they're worse than irrelevant; they're occupying the space needed for a real opposition party.
