There was a good video which did a similar thing by just carrying out normal internet searches of passers by. It was pretty scary because they could work out where they lived and worked quickly. I am increasingly thinking we just need to put as little online as possible.

Join us online on 24 Sept to celebrate the 250th VCH Big Red Book!

Founded in 1899, @vchlondon.bsky.social is writing the #history of every place in #England, with partners across the country. We'll also celebrate #LocalHistory, #communityhistory & #place based history more widely. All welcome!

Nor me, not sure sending selfies to American companies to prove your age seems like a great idea either

Is it a new law that all websites have to follow in the UK? I have had it on other sites as well

Yes it's great that we are actually getting it on free to air now. Same for the all Ireland hurling I watched last weekend. I was surprised how much I enjoyed it and how much I'm looking forward to the all Ireland football final this weekend.

This is a great model. Emily was kind enough to share it with our @vchlondon.bsky.social project and it has been so helpful. It allowed volunteers with no training to accurately transcribe Early Modern records. This would have been so much harder without her help
Just pushed the button on running the Egerton model for the last time before we make it public. We hit 1.1 million words in the training data and 126,000 in the verification set. This has been three years in the making, but it's a great model and really accurate. @transkribus.bsky.social

I love the juxtaposition here of @vchlondon.bsky.social #BigRedBooks with the (even bigger) volumes of Camden's Britannia (1695).

People have been writing about place for a long, long time.

For VCH online, see @bho.bsky.social, a full text of Camden here, btw: quod.lib.umich.edu/e/eebo2/B184....

This is a bumper year for @vchlondon.bsky.social:

Four new projects (each breaking new ground in counties where we haven't been actively researching for around a century.

Many new books *including* our 250th Big Red Book (and that's in a county we haven't done before: Westmorland). #VCHRedBook250

The US government hostility to Europe is clear and open. They, and Putin, want a divided and exploitable Europe.

The war in Ukraine is about as well. Both now and at the outset.

The only reason Trump is being 'generous' with the UK is to keep them away from the EU. He has openly stated this.
