It's a low key, mid-week episode where we just chat about things like the books we're reading, if it's possible to know scientifically the thresholds of joy and pain, and why Charlie Hunnam decided to do Winnie the Pooh voice in the Ed Gein series. It's a chill hang!

This week Marko wanted to hear a story of cursed love, so Corrigan recounts the tragic mystery of the Mayerling Incident, which inadvertently led to WWI. Cursed indeed!

Joe Masefield was my huz’s @johntgray.bsky.social 1st professional mentor. A relentlessly optimistic man who knew film history (ALMOST) as much as my OWN dad (they shared a cameo in our feature
“White Irish Drinkers” & proceeded to become soulmates after that! )…1/ variety.com/2025/film/ne...

Celebrate Rapture Day with a JoAG classic! I made Marko watch A Thief in the Night and we talked about how this shockingly violent Christian flick made evangelical kids panic every time their parents were out of their line of sight.

This is magic, just made up batshit medical magic, it’s like saying “Danny Simon can walk again because they took his pinky finger, cut it off, pointed it accusingly at a warlock, painted it red, and stuck it up his ass.” Just pure wtf Mad Libs surgical sorcery.

This week we talk about how religions define martyrdom, whether it reeeeeally counts according to their own texts, and how any group is convinced to go to war. Plus, CoRri closes out her thirties, we talk science illiteracy, and we bicker over some movies!

If you listened to the JoAG Fancave this week, you might appreciate the Bat-posting on Jamie's skyline

A third The Bat for me, this time from 1959, written and directed by Crane Wilbur and with 100% more Vincent Price. He's in a version that dispenses almost entirely with any horror elements and plays like a light but cynical Scooby Doo episode. It's still fun, though, and has its moments of style.
Title card for The Bat (1959) A gloved hand holds a magazine page, which shows two images of bats with the headline 'Warning: Beware of Bats!' A shot of windows with net curtains, and outside a figure dressed in a suit, with a mask obscuring their face, wearing a hat, and gloves that have long claws attached to them. That same figure is in close-up, holding up one gloved, claw-fingered hand and moving towards the camera
