just added a few good first issues for red dwarf if you want to help tackle some of the lower hanging fruits
tangled.org/@whey.party/...

yeah in atproto space you could just make a lexicon for localization, I was thinking of making a tool w/ @slices.network

side note: esp. w/ the URL names of atproto handles, we need a list of what TLD's support which unicode characters. I'm sad that dot com doesn't support the Irish fada accents.

I like what @tophhie.cloud did with tophhie.social and built a migration tool into the PDS in addition to niceties like sign up and a dashboard + backups. Makes it feel like a professional/coherent package.

I do want devs to localize their apps to different languages if possible so people can join in the fun of non-bsky atproto stuff. I can't imagine what the dev of keik.org would do with slices 💀

yeah I heavily encourage people to do backups via tools like @atbackup.pages.dev , bsky.storage, or I use github.com/FiloSottile/...

and add a rotation key to your account (allows PDS migration under adversarial conditions) via atpairport.com (click on ticket booth and store key in a safe place)

it's probably rose colored glasses, but the Japanese community seems to be having a better time regardless of protocol (ex: misskey for AP), the tokimeki bsky client dev seemed genuinely confused about all the current drama in the English speaking atproto space and just wanted everyone to be ok 🥺

This feels like reading a light novel giving backstory on an ongoing conflict spanning generations and timelines.

I recognize a name, no comment 💀

Yeah sorry I missed the mastodon.social mention, but I generally try to tell people about AP alternatives to mastodon specifically to break the monoculture surrounding it. I didn’t intend to conflate Activitypub and mastodon, my bad.

there are FEPs for data portability (see some of @bumblefudge.com's work) and activitypods.org / mastopod.com (reference project).

In theory activitypub have certain features characteristic of ATP, but yeah this stuff isn't widely implemented because of stuff like funding.

Rudy just posted this addressing the concerns regarding Bluesky's moderation team banning a user named Link from the Bluesky appview and why Link wasn't visible on the Blacksky client. Blacksky is in the process hosting their own Appview to address this.

I hear and see your concerns. Over the weekend, a couple users hosted on Blacksky's PDS were banned from the Bluesky app and thus the Bluesky API servers. This was a weakness of our system I've been aware of and hoped we had more time to address before any kind of public incident. 1/11

I mean history rhymes but doesn't necessarily repeat, at least we're learning that data portability is a probably good idea?
(technically AP can do this too but not really implemented)

also I realize I'm dangerously close to taking this joke post too seriously :P

oh my bad, I just saw this (my idea was a complete hack compared to the real solution below, i.e. standing up an independent appview):

+1 for Rudy's communication as always

it would be nice if there was some way to get usage stats from 3rd party appviews, idk if it would be nice to have something on protocol so anyone can check not just the admins

you can kind of check usage for @slices.network b/c it's sort of a social app in a way (it has a timeline)

I mean I was well aware that something could happen down the line, but wow do they have an NSA informant because that was spooky fast? I'm more entertained than anything to be honest lol.

sometimes the low character count for posts stresses me out when it's something technical and I feel like I end up sounding very kurt/possibly adversarial b/c I can't add filler words to sound more casual

I think Oracle might have deleted my account (can't log in, my free trial was ended way too early) 💀💀💀

lesson learned 🤷

I think the point of OP's post was finding web clients that could use PWAs in the atproto ecosystem and from a brief glance your app is a native mobile client? So not strictly relevant to OP's post but always good to know about what exists in the ecosystem. 🤷‍♂️

I wonder how hard it would be to add reddwarf’s features to the blacksky.community’s client @whey.party? If it’s just pulling from PDS for a few accounts maybe that’s ok performance-wise?

Or some kind of partial cache for a handful of accounts that Blacksky differs w/ Bluesky on?#freelinknk ⛓️‍💥

snowpo.st sort of reminds me of bearblog.dev

idk if there's a UI for @teal.fm

how could I forget about @flushes.app 🪠
