If I were to ask to my 7y/o son he would look at me with an extremely puzzled face and no understanding of what a My Little Pony is 🤣

The 2 that have died on me in the past 10 years beg to differ 😉

The only real difference between instances is who the moderators are, and thus how it will be moderated.
In practice just choose one, and if you find out you don't like how it is moderated you can always move to another one with a couple of clicks.

Ahead of tomorrow’s #NobelPrize announcement, I went on a deep dive in search of the most obscure physics Nobel Prizes in history. That means it's time for a thread on...🧵

PHYSICS NOBEL PRIZES YOU’VE NEVER HEARD OF – PART 1

To be fair, he doesn't need to ever produce a game. He just need to convince enough investors to pour billions into it, until he can convince them of the next big thing.
This stuff never had any connection with reality.

This is how I want to be awarded the Nobel Prize.

It looks like I have to add Wiley to the list of publishers I refuse to publish with or review for 🤷🏻‍♂️

Everybody makes money out of academic authors except the authors...News.

Wiley is the latest academic publisher to reach a multi-million deal to allow access to its content to AI developers, with no opt out, let alone payment, for the authors who created that content.
Wiley set to earn $44m from AI rights deals, confirms “no opt-out" for authors
The US publisher is the latest to capitalise on deals to give tech firms access to its authors’ content to train their Large Language Models (LLMs).

I have used the Riley when I was teaching mathematical methods. It is a good book with clear explanations, and covers a lot of topics. I would recommend.

Offering again to put you in contact with my Head of Department to discuss the possibility to move here 😉

(Technically Heads of Department here can't make those choices, but they can make a case with the Faculty.)

Only thing I will miss are all the beautiful #miniaturepainting pictures people were uploading.
I am just a beginner with this hobby, but people there kept posting some truly amazing stuff.

I never touched #Reddit, but some time back a colleague told me what a nice experience they were having with it, so I decided to try it out.
After 1 month I can confirm it is a toxic hellhole. Uninstalled the app and will do my best to stay far away from it.

Had the same thought 🤣
(Would like to know who design all these mandatory training. If nothing else to let them know they are doing a horrible job)

#PhysicsFactlet
A geodesics on a surface is the shortest* curve connecting two points.

*if you know/care what goes in this footnote, you don't need me to explain 😉

There should be no misunderstanding that this is utter and complete corporate BS. No quantum computers are needed for whatever they did in this work. It's a shame to see IBM depart from their fact-based approach. See Scott Aaronson's blog post: scottaaronson.blog?p=9170

Primary school in Italy in the '80s: we had to write an essay per week, and got feedback on it. That is how we learnt.

But to be fair, extremely long sentences with nested subordinates have been commonplace in Italian since its codification 😉

It is completely unsurprising to me that LLM essays and essays by real undergraduates are identically structured when PEE and TEEEL and 5 para 3 point essays have been absolutely drilled into school pupils, certainly in the UK where GCSEs are totally unforgiving and teachers must teach to the test.

I am ready to bet that the spokeperson sending that reply has no understanding how any of that work, and didn't find useful to ask one of their engineers.

It looks like Samsung is actively suggesting using water to remove a smart ring where the lithium is potentially exposed 🤷‍♂️
"While experiences like this are extremely rare, there are a few ways to attempt removing a stuck ring, including soap and water – or submerging your hand in cold water."
YouTuber reports battery swelling caused Galaxy Ring to get stuck on his finger
Daniel Rotar of the ZONEofTECH YouTube channel shared some gnarly photos of a smart ring gone bad.

Can I suggest to add the notion that any information buried 3 pages deep in a newsletter nobody asked for and nobody reads is not information?
