That doesn't make sense. Like, it just does not compute. For 10 years, he *averaged* a 2.29 ERA in 34 starts.

Then he got old, hurt all the time, lost his velo....and his ERA dropped to 2.93

Clayton Kershaw had a 4.26 ERA as a rookie in 107.2 IP

He didn't have an ERA higher than 3.55 in a season until 2024, when he had a 4.5 ERA in 30 IP

Since 2009, his 3 highest ERAs in a season where he made 10 or more starts are 3.55, 3.36, and 3.03

oh no question. i just think back when offense mattered less and you could get by with defense/ST, he'd have been able to plug along for longer and ran his way into a good hire for a year or two

I don’t think there’s any world where Muschamp is ever, like, a great coach but he really got in at the wrong time. Right as the SEC was moving away from his whole ethos and style. He probably finds a weird OC who could do some cool stuff in the run game and wins a division title or two in the 2000s
