It was only when the crowd spilled across the road as the parade neared that cars stopped attempting to go through green lights. Which didn't stop the drivers behind beeping at them to go! No police presence till the parade arrived as far as I could tell.

I think the simple fact is that some people recognise their own behaviour in the actions of Doyle. Road rage, "car brain", whatever. It was scary that day (I was watching with my wife and baby on Moss St/Islington), drivers were left to their own devices as crowds gathered.

Indeed. I just hate that we’re in a timeline in which support and empathy for marginalised groups is deemed extreme while hatred and disdain for those same groups garners support and air time on political/news programmes

Anyway, here's a helpful video for anyone interested in the cyclist's perspective of close passing: youtu.be/9kgPt-lNYGY?...

Even with this short journey, which I only make once or twice a week, more often than not there's *something* that puts me off ever doing it again. I can normally just ignore the abuse and dodgy overtakes but yesterday really did take the piss.

I'm a purely functional cyclist, I only really do it to commute on the days I work in south Liverpool as the 3 mile journey is 15 minutes whether I go by bike or car and I like the fresh(ish) air in the mornings.

... mobile phone use or just general shit driving. Either way, one false move by either of us as he passed and I could have been knocked off, injured, maybe killed like Keith Hornby was, tragically in Huyton last week.

Without a doubt, the driver could see me well ahead of him staying in lane to continue straight after the railway bridge, I don't know if it was punishment for having the audacity to filter past him to the bike box at traffic lights about half a mile earlier ...

Oh my God me tooooo. Blocked around 20 Sarahs this afternoon! I only joined the other day and this is the only real turn off so far. (Except individuals/organisations I want to follow that aren't here yet but I'm confident that'll resolve over time!)
