Day 16 of #ArchaeologyAdvent takes us to Bembridge Fort, #IsleofWight, built as part of the 1860 Royal Commission defences. It commands the space between Brading Haven & the sea - its purpose was as a barrack keep to the coast batteries in Sandown Bay & to guard against a possible enemy landing.

#TombTuesday autumnal visit to Wayland's Smithy on the #Ridgeway. A #Neolithic chambered long barrow with several phases of use between 3600BC & 3400BC once believed to have been the home of Wayland, the Saxon god of metal working. Down the track from Uffington White Horse, Castle & Dragon Hill.

On #Christmas day in the morning. Getting into festive mood even when thinking about #NationalTrust barns on #IsleofWight. These three ship #graffiti images are only a small selection in barn. #Festive

What did you do today? I got to visit a Ladder Museum in my break. A chance to explore the #Heritage and Rural Skills Centre at #NationalTrust Buscot & Coleshill Estate. Star is the 15m long ladder that once allowed access to Buscot House's roof for repairs. Any enthusiasts spot a rare #ladder?
