Labour vaguely equating diplomacy with bribery perhaps not the most considered messaging ever. Was it wise to give that intern the passwords to the social media accounts?

The new story from #NeuroticLiterature looks at what happens when somebody lacking any of the integrity or skills needed to run a country ends up running the country.

It's just fiction, of course - this could never happen in real life!

Too many of us wake to discover that the brave post of yesterday is the huge error of judgement of today. But for Ben, an unwise video is just the first step into an uncertain new world of online celebrity...

'DWM has only given the deep-dive, long-form 'ultimate interview' treatment to four people before...'

Ahem DWM 621: DWMs 321 to 326 would like a word....

I don't want to sound judgy, but superficially at least London City Ballet look a little bit past it here

Just found a picture of one of my first ever stage roles. I'm the bell on the far left. Not entirely in character, if I'm honest.

Like the very stupidest people, AI will state with absolute confidence things that can be shown to be nonsense with just a few seconds' research.

Above all, the adorable chemistry between Rigg and Macnee just leaps off the screen. In this episode they play a series of games and ad-lib their way around them with magical results - the pick-up-sticks scene in particular (inc. Macnee's beautiful response when Rigg accidentally knocks the box).

(NB: given its proximity to Goldfinger, which itself clearly owes more than just its leading lady to The Avengers, I wonder if the whole episode it a bit of a sly piss take of the golf scene in that film?)

It typifies the way the series turns a quaint and essentially comical scenario into something sinister and ultimately fantastical - a balance it was striking perfectly in 1965, before it grew too fond of its own absurdity. A golf course: the perfect location for something involving espionage.

Rewatched The Avengers: 'The 13th Hole', which was my gateway to a lifelong love of the series. It's obvious why it made such an impact on me, even tho it's a fairly average example of the era (the quality of those black and white Rigg/Macnee episodes is so high there's nothing average about them).

Sometimes when you're clearing out, you think 'why the hell did I keep this piece of tat?'

Sometimes, the piece of tat clearly has nostalgic value. It is a part of who you are: it is tat, but you hold onto it.

Sometimes, the distinction is unclear.

THE TEN SHAMEFUL MEMORIES THAT KILL YOU theorises about the deadly nature of shame and, conversely, the advantages of dispensing with it. Given the current state of things, it feels even more prescient now.
