Since Labour decided they were an anti-racist party they have announced that

refugees will be housed in derelict army camps, at great expense

refugees will not get indefinite leave to remain or citizenship

increasing the qualifying time for leave to remain for immigrants to ten years
I see Labour are claiming to be an anti-racist party again.

This can only mean they're about to announce yet another policy to make life more difficult for immigrants or refugees.

Don't trust her, Charlie Brown! She's gonna swipe the ball away!
"Let's not forget, when we remember the service and the sacrifice with this poppy, that the people who bled and died for our democracy and our freedom, weren't just my grandfather who looked like me & worshipped the same God, but people across Empire & Commonwealth, who were Muslim, Sikh & Hindu'

This won’t stop people seeking protection in the UK. It will make it harder for refugees to rebuild their lives, feel secure and contribute to their communities. It will create a load more work for the Home Office, reviewing claims every three years.

UK set to limit refugees to temporary stays
Shabana Mahmood is expected to say the era of permanent protection for refugees is over, in major changes to the UK's asylum and immigration system.

Full-on, unapologetic racism, not dog whistle but bloody foghorn, is now mainstream on the right.

Labour vaguely equating diplomacy with bribery perhaps not the most considered messaging ever. Was it wise to give that intern the passwords to the social media accounts?

This made my morning. Comprehensive, funny, inspiring, and by the end, oddly, genuinely moving. Absolutely worth your time.

Hello @kermodeandmayo.bsky.social. 'Biweekly' can in fact mean twice a week *or* once every two weeks, because the prefix bi- can be used for both "occurring every two" and "occurring twice." Welcome to the English language.

I propose that a more helpful word for your purpose is 'fortnightly'.

If you ever want a laugh, add 'composer' as a job title on LinkedIn and enjoy the job suggestions that come rolling in.

Amongst many, many not-composing roles, the algorithm is absolutely determined that I should become a caterer at King's College Cambridge.

The Mathshow 'Dr Where' skits on the Season 13 collection are put together with astonishing care - they make efforts with visuals that a schools programme really didn't need to make, including a miniaturisation effect that is... er... rather more successful than any equivalent in *real* Doctor Who.

Pretty much every Culture Secretary we've had since the post was created has reinforced my impression that our frontline politicians simply do not know or care about culture.
