Zack Polanski is on Question Time tonight, a lone voice in a panel of right wingers. It will be interesting.

‘Just like the bricks…they are the linguistic palette of the land and its lingering traces. They are the raw material from which the words arise, passed hand to hand through Roman Hispania, or the Umayyad Caliphate of Cordoba, proudly Mudéjar’

Today is a day when arts degrees are worthless, but the product of those degrees is so valuable it would kill an entire industry if they were made to pay for it.

Shirtless English guy in the supermarket (here in out of the way Spain)…When Nuria from checkout no.5 insisted that “NO se puede estar así, Caballero” I was very happy to step in and translate.- “She says no one wants to see your pink tits and spotty back, you slob”

The whole thing reeks of shit from one end to the other. The Devil’s work.

It was considerate of them to touch down there, given the school’s name.

Perhaps these ‘luvvie’ degrees might throw up a comms team capable of spelling ‘Britain’

The Rees Moggs will still do History degrees. The Johnsons will still do Classics.
Sadly, the Wilsons from South Bank in Middlesbrough won't get the intellectual stimulation of studying a subject of interest for a degree.

Yeah, I’ve been around the block etc..have a longer arc to inform whatever I write, does that mean 20-something MFA grads have nothing to say? Obviously not. I’m not that convinced that age matters much, I certainly never feel like I’ve arrived late. I’ve arrived just in time. Who cares?

Seeing as I’m feeling all opinionated this morning; I frequently come across bits, mostly on Substack about emerging ‘older’ writers, which I suppose means me, (I’m 57). I always greet these things with a shrug. I mean, who gives a shit? 1/
