I think this might be my favourite moment of #UniversityChallenge of all time. Topic whiplash to the nth degree.

I've been using the #birdNET library to analyse recordings of birds in my garden and it's so unbelievably good. Building a dashboard for a live(ish) view of what's visiting the garden.

Parakeets aren't errors by the way, this is with some test audio from St James's Park!

10/10 work, birdNET!

I remember seeing a post-race interview with Harry Aikines-Aryeetey and thinking he was just a damn lovely bloke. Becoming Nitro on Gladiators and all the recent exposure on TV has only made me triple down on this opinion.

Ah yes, just what we need. Disgraced royals peddling what remains of their influence to the highest bidder.
The Duke of York appointed an alleged Chinese spy as his business adviser and promised him links to the heart of the royal family in an apparently serious breach of national security

Nigel Richards has now won the English (UK, US, and World) championships in scrabble. He decided to memorise the French Scrabble dictionary (despite not speaking French) to win the French Scrabble Championships, and now has done the same for Spanish. Somebody stop this man.

Nobel prize v2.0 to be announced soon? Perhaps the corporate sponsorship directly? The Fox Public Virtue Awards?

A really good story by @rossandersen.bsky.social. I didn't know anything about the topic short of "military space stuff is very hush-hush" (despite having done a PhD in astrophysics and used NASA data extensively). Very eye-opening!
I am so glad @rossandersen.bsky.social took the time to write this. It is a thorough and accurate summary of the @vrubinobs.bsky.social situation. I have MANY FEELINGS about each and every facet of said situation, let me tell you. This won't be the last you hear of "telescope vs crap in orbit" 🔭

I think the tech jargon for computer security is reaching "sounds quite naughty" proportions.

I went to the US in April to view the eclipse and attempted to rent "compacts" in different states. In Texas I received a "small" truck and in Nevada I received a "sport". Not my cup of tea but I cannot deny I had the true American experience. 🦅⛽

Pointless trivia: When Sweden play Denmark at home in international football, the scoreboard reads SWE-DEN. As far as I can work out, this occurs between 4 countries with FIFA's official three-letter country codes.
