Next week's politics of public policy theme: Growth of Government/Large Scale Democracy

Me in August: Sure, let's talk about redistricting here. The 2022 CQ Researcher case is a good resource.

Me today: Frantically timestamping links, wondering if I can just throw this up for the slide: ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I’m teaching a class called The Politics of Public Policy, and added a theme this semester about making the invisible work of bureaucracy/government visible. Thank you for posting this- it will make a great opening slide for my class meeting in two weeks.

Had a mostly good time at the game today but Fifa and Met Life need to reevaluate their vendor policies. No water easily available (even to buy) at/after the 72nd minute was problematic (to say the least).

Positive: taking public transportation from Princeton to the stadium

This has been a heavy day for many reasons, so I am going to say goodnight with a timeline cleanse- my view of Ghost from my yoga mat this morning.

NYU Wagner convocation is today. As soon as I heard about the potential NJ Transit strike I got Amtrak tickets (I'm lucky thue an option at my station). This empty parking lot is wild. I don't get this close to the front when I get here by 6:15 am, let alone 11:30 am.

Princeton folks: come hear Lila Corwin Berman and me talk about American Jewish Philanthropy. We will be at TJC on Wed 5/14 at 7:30 pm.

For the past several weeks we have been wrestling with "What makes an issue a Jewish issue?" "Who gets to project a unified communal identity....and who gets to choose what that identity reflects?" Thanks @kampeas.bsky.social for giving me additional material to enrich these discussions.

This while 🧵 @goodtroublein.bsky.social called out this approach in Indiana last year when IUDs were cut out of a bill designed to expand birth control access. Article about the Indiana issue in the following post. 1/2

My sign and 10yo’s sign for today’s #HandsOff protest in Princeton. I've seen the crowd size estimated at 1500-2000 (in a town of 30,000).

I can't keep up. I am about to record an explainer re: this administration's impact on nonprofits and I am tempted to just leave this up as my one and only slide.

This is Ghost. He is not sure what you have, but he is asking very politely if he can have some.

Chanukah's timing has thrown me off. I have been unsettled not lighting the full chanukiyah in 2024. At the same time, 2025 probably needs all the light it can get. Let's be the light.

This paper focuses on the relationship between message framing on social media and donations. The fun part is our data came from a competition in which nonprofits went head to head for fundraising - think World Cup bracket. 2/3
