Have you read Cary Elwes's As You Wish? If not, check out the audiobook, read by Elwes with many of the actors, and Rob Reiner, making appearances. A beautiful ode to the movie made even more poignant now.

Today was the winter solstice. Tonight marks the last night of Chanukah. May we bring these lights with us as the days themselves get longer.

My favorite time of the semester: grading final reflections. I give my students options to do traditional essays or unessays. So far I have had wonderful reflections, responses explained via song playlist, a moodboard....

Tomorrow we have a community Chanukah lighting & my kid has a caroling gig with choir. Both are public events, but my husband and I only debated whether to skip one of those because of security concerns. We're going to both, but my heart hurts at the fact that we even had to have the conversation.

Bluesky is like a virtual windowsill, right? Chanukah sameach to all who celebrate, however you chose to do so in these days.

My husband and I are having this conversation right now.
My kids woke up so excited this morning for the first night of Hannukah and now yet again we have a festival where I’m very conflicted about whether it’s safe to take them to synagogue to celebrate. Communities shouldn’t have to live like this.

Taking kids to a Hannukah celebration, lighting candles publicly, trying to be publicly Jewish feels fraught but also necessary. Try to bring some light into a dark world.
Jews everywhere understand that this is the omnipresent reality of being Jewish now. There's a reason my synagogue built a 10-foot tall fence around the whole building and has armed security guards.

Your professor friends and your Jewish friends - and your Jewish professor friends- are probably not ok today.
The anti-Semitic mass shooting in Australia will cause a national conversation and policy change. We know this because the 1996 Port Arthur massacre led to significant restrictions on guns.
The shooting at Brown will do nothing. We know this because it occurred on the anniversary of Sandy Hook.

The Indiana GOP's new congressional gerrymander failed by a vote of 31-19.

21 Republicans joined the 10 Democrats in voting no.
BREAKING: Indiana Republicans FAILED to pass a new 9-0 congressional gerrymander after enough GOP senators sided with Dems. The GOP's 7-2 map stays in place.

Trump is trying to re-gerrymander maps nationwide. At least 11 Indiana Rs got death threats after he called for primaries—but it still failed

Anyone w/ expertise re congressionally chartered orgs? We were discussing the American Red Cross in class. The US President appoints the ARC chair (and some board members). Is this b/c of the congressional charter? Or something special re ARC? Does the president appoint other chairs? #Nonprofitsky

Phone: Record your name. When you are finished, press pound.
Tween: Pound?
Me: Hashtag
Tween: Ooooh

Intrigued that ARNOVA & SSWR still have not created Bluesky accounts at this point in 2025. It integrated into @altmetric.com (unliked LinkedIn) & increasingly preferred by academic & scientific institutions & networks. i want to repeat this: mamdani and spanberger have run similar campaigns tailored to their respective electorates and it is maddening to watch political journalists attempt to create some broad contrast where none exist
the other thing about this is that there is no reason to pit these candidates against each other? each are good fits for their respective electorates and each shows the value of vigorous campaigns focused on the stated material problems of voters.
