Sad times.
Kelly: "I never expected after serving 25 years in the Navy flying combat missions over Iraq and Kuwait, flying the Space Shuttle, that now I've got to worry about my personal safety and that of my wife, Gabby Giffords, who was already nearly assassinated, because of something the president said."

This country is crazy.
Ashley Babbit's family is poised to recieve 30 million dollars (from tax payers) thanks to the Dept of Justice...
Mrs Sicknick just wanted a phone call and the people who assaulted her son Brian held accountable.

Crazy stuff
It's a high bar, but this from @radleybalko.bsky.social might be one of the most fucked up things I've read in the new Trump era. For context, this TX lawyer had just had an informal conversation with a family caught up in ICE raids.

Seriously. Read this. radleybalko.substack.com/p/the-courag...

I feel like we need to keep saying this because it’s so insane: This is a legal U.S. resident who has been detained for over a month now for his political opinions.
The Department of Homeland Security denied Mahmoud Khalil permission to attend the birth of his first child, who was delivered at a New York hospital on Monday, according to emails reviewed by The New York Times.
Mahmoud Khalil’s Son Arrives After ICE Refuses to Let Him Attend Birth
Mr. Khalil, a permanent resident detained in Louisiana, had requested a monitored furlough for the birth. His request was denied in less than an hour.

Is it relevant that America’s literal origin story is that a people went to war over an unaccountable authority imposing an unreasonable tax on them. (and that tax was an import tax, a tariff)

It seems relevant

I’m old enough to remember being told giving water away charitably in Georgia was a grave threat to election integrity.
Republicans in Wisconsin have been silent on the Musk giveaway — but the RNC has warned a group they cannot give ice cream to college students.

Perhaps the most concise way to think about this is that Musk has pranced around bragging about cracking down on fraud and abuse, finding the bad guys. Meanwhile what he's actually done is enable perhaps the biggest splurge of fraud and tax cheating in history. For him and his pals.
So look at that. DOGE has cost the US Treasury fucking half a trillion dollars. HALF A TRILLION DOLLARS. This is your cost savings.
To review what we from @washingtonpost.com are reporting out of the IRS today:

- Projected tax revenue this year is down 10% ($500 billion) as Trump's downsizing is emboldening tax cheats

- IRS is nearing an agreement with ICE to assist on mass deportations

This is the message for Democrats. Why isn’t everyone of them saying this ten times a day? Flood the zone.
The Trump admin playbook: gut civil service to crush public education, derail lifesaving research, pollute our air and water, and make it harder for veterans, working families, and small businesses to access the programs they rely on—all to pay for a tax break for billionaires.
Lawmakers fear DOGE cuts will drive away next generation of federal workers
Members of both parties warn that Trump and Musk’s efforts will severely hinder the government’s ability to recruit young people and technical experts.

Casar: You can quickly explain Doge with just two numbers.

First: $8 million a day. That’s how much Elon Musk collects in federal government contracts.

Second: $65 a day. That’s how much the average senior—someone who has worked their entire life—gets from Social Security.…

Holy shit, a whopping 56 percent of Americans DISAPPROVE of trump's abysmal handling of the economy.

This is lower than any other point even in his first term.

PASS IT ON.
