Perhaps we will never know! (I am not certain there was ever a real conversation.)

Now here's that chart with a highlight on early June 2025, when Chris Cillizza assured us that Democrat who criticized Trump's authoritarian occupation of American cities were morons who were "falling into his trap" because a fight over immigration could only help him.

This NYT passage should read "Richard Hanania, a political scientist who once wrote for white-nationalist publications under a pseudonym and also for the New York Times before claiming to moderate his views"

"furious protesters clashing with masked officers" is a deeply dishonest way to describe a nurse with a camera pinned to the ground and shot 10 times

And the Trump administration has an "account" and a "description" and it's critics have their "beliefs"

Introduction: Other people were wrong to call Trump a fascist because the term is hazily-defined and different versions of fascism look different.

Conclusion: I am right to call Trump a fascist because fascism does not have precise borders and different versions of it are not copies of each other.

guy thinks Trumpists don't hold mass rallies?
January 25, 2026 at 7:43 PM
seems like the kind of piece that should contain an acknowledgement that other people saw what this guy missed but no that isn't how establishment media types roll so it's just open contempt for people who saw clearly when he did not. welcome to the party, you don't have to be a dick about it.

"Hew closely to party lines" badly understates disapproval of the shooting.

1) ~2x as many people say "not justified" (54-28)
2) Independents say "not justified" by ~3-1 margin (61-21)
3) Only Republicans support the shooting, and they do so by much smaller margin (52 pts) than D's disapprove (90).

your journalists were so preoccupied with whether or not they could they didn't stop to think if they should
January 13, 2026 at 11:47 PM
There is no convincing evidence the shameless thugs peddling this excuse for murdering a woman actually "believe" it and journalists who grant them the unearned presumption of sincerity are doing the exact kind of "mind reading" they disparage when people ask them to call lies lies.

the lede adopts Trump's framing that his interest in Greenland is about "national security"; it isn't until paragraphs 31-32 (the literal end of the article) that, almost as an afterthought, the Times acknowledges that maybe the guy currently looting Venezuela's oil is after natural resources.
