Now here's that chart with a highlight on early June 2025, when Chris Cillizza assured us that Democrat who criticized Trump's authoritarian occupation of American cities were morons who were "falling into his trap" because a fight over immigration could only help him.

No matter how many more armed men Trump sends to impose his will on the people of Minnesota, all he can do is accentuate their valor. No application of armed violence can make the men with guns as heroic as the people who choose to stand in their path with empty hands in defense of their neighbors. These agents, and the president who sent them, are no one's heroes, no one's saviors—just men with guns who have to hide their faces to shoot a mom in the face, and a nurse in the back.

The secret fear of the morally depraved is that virtue is actually common, and that they're the ones who are alone. In Minnesota, all of the ideological cornerstones of MAGA have been proved false at once. Minnesotans, not the armed thugs of ICE and the Border Patrol, are brave. Minnesotans have shown that their community is socially cohesive—because of its diversity and not in spite of it. Minnesotans have found and loved one another in a world atomized by social media, where empty men have tried to fill their lonely soul with lies about their own inherent superiority. Minnesotans have preserved everything worthwhile about "Western civilization," while armed brutes try to tear it down by force.

No amount of snow could block out the images: furious protesters clashing with masked officers, clouds of tear gas wafting through neighborhoods — and for the second time in three weeks, video of an American citizen being shot dead by a federal agent. And for the second time in three weeks, the Trump administration's account of a deadly shooting contradicted what many in the country believe they saw. Federal officials described both victims as "domestic terrorists" intent on harming federal agents; critics of the administration, and many others, said such a description was belied by the video evidence.

What centrists like Cillizza propose - a response to ICE's murder spree completely lacking in human emotion - recalls one of the most famously disastrous moments in modern American political history, when CNN's Bernard Shaw opened a 1988 presidential debate by asking Massachusetts Governor Michael Dukakis, a death-penalty opponent, an obscenely personal hypothetical about his wife: SHAW: Governor, if Kitty Dukakis were raped and murdered, would you favor an irrevocable death penalty for the killer? DUKAKIS: No, I don't, Bernard. And I think you know that I've opposed the death penalty during all of my life. I don't see any evidence that it's a deterrent, and I think there are better and more effective ways to deal with violent crime. Dukakis's answer was principled, and he was right about the death penalty from a substantive standpoint. But he had just been asked on national television about his wife being raped and murdered and he responded like he had been asked if he wanted sugar in his coffee. The lack of emotion, of outrage, of humanity in his response was widely seen as more damaging than the (unjustly) unpopular policy position it contained.

Introduction: Other people were wrong to call Trump a fascist because the term is hazily-defined and different versions of fascism look different.

Conclusion: I am right to call Trump a fascist because fascism does not have precise borders and different versions of it are not copies of each other.
UNTIL RECENTLY, I resisted using the F-word to describe President Trump. For one thing, there were too many elements of classical fascism that didn't seem to fit. For another, the term has been overused to the point of meaninglessness, especially by left-leaning types who call you a fascist if you oppose abortion or affirmative action. For yet another, the term is hazily defined, even by its adherents. From the beginning, fascism has been an incoherent doctrine, and even today scholars can't agree on its definition. Italy's original version differed from Germany's, which differed from Spain's, which differed from Japan's. The exercise of comparing fascism's various forms is not precise. If historians object that Trump is not a copy of Mussolini or Hitler or Franco, the reply is yes—but so what? Trump is building something new on old principles. He is showing us in real time what 21st-century American fascism looks like.

Research led by Professor Charlesworth and published in 2022 detailed this decline. Drawing on 7.1 million responses from Americans collected from 2007 to 2020, the researchers tracked both explicit bias (how people answer questions like “To what extent do you prefer straight people over gay people?”) and implicit bias (more automatic responses inferred from how rapidly people associate words, such as “straight” with “good” and “gay” with “bad”). Across every U.S. state and demographic group, anti-gay bias plummeted — by roughly 75 percent on explicit measures and 65 percent on implicit ones, on average. Forecasting models suggested that, at that pace, anti-gay bias could hit zero as early as 2022.

"Hew closely to party lines" badly understates disapproval of the shooting.

1) ~2x as many people say "not justified" (54-28)
2) Independents say "not justified" by ~3-1 margin (61-21)
3) Only Republicans support the shooting, and they do so by much smaller margin (52 pts) than D's disapprove (90).

There is no convincing evidence the shameless thugs peddling this excuse for murdering a woman actually "believe" it and journalists who grant them the unearned presumption of sincerity are doing the exact kind of "mind reading" they disparage when people ask them to call lies lies.
Mr. Trump and many in his administration — particularly Vice President JD Vance — have already made clear that they believe Ms. Good, who was shot at three times at close range, was unambiguously responsible for her own death. But even though investigators have not made public a specific allegation that anyone aside from Ms. Good and her wife were involved in an encounter with federal agents that day, the Justice Department is still planning to examine a wide group of activists who took part in the neighborhood watch activities, believing they were "instigators" of the shooting, the people familiar with the inquiry said.

the lede adopts Trump's framing that his interest in Greenland is about "national security"; it isn't until paragraphs 31-32 (the literal end of the article) that, almost as an afterthought, the Times acknowledges that maybe the guy currently looting Venezuela's oil is after natural resources.
Just a few days ago, Mr. Trump said: "We need Greenland from the standpoint of national security." But the question is: Does the United States even need to buy Greenland — or do something more drastic — to accomplish all of Mr. Trump's goals? But Greenland's strategic location is not the only thing that's attracted Mr. Trump's inner circle. The enormous island has another draw: critical minerals, loads of them, buried under the ice. Here, too, analysts say, the United States doesn't need to take over the island to get them.
