Interestingly, the Downtown Vancouver Business Improvement Association, who had previously opposed the infrastructure, eventually reversed their position and became one of the city’s most vocal cycling proponents—calling protected bike lanes “the way of the future” and a “win–win–win for all users”.
People of all ages and abilities ride bicycles on protected cycling infrastructure on the streets of Downtown Vancouver. This can be fixed. We just need people to care more about people than they do about cars.

We really need to be able to build single stair buildings over 3 stories, but that is an issue that needs to be fixed by the state rather than the city. I am already in Jason Morgan's ear about this, and he's receptive. Make sure you let him know you support increased heights for single stair bldgs.

Yeah, weird how intelligently designing roads could actually benefit everyone.

I’m on the train about to depart #Annecy to return to Paris and then to fly back home to #AnnArbor. Annecy is roughly the size of Ann Arbor, and has a great bus system, incredible, complete #bike infrastructure, and an active train station to take you anywhere. Wishing I didn’t have to go home. 😢
Looking down the canal in Annecy, the buildings of the old town lining the sides. A mountain peeking out beyond the buildings. The bike trail as it leaves Annecy, with trees, lake, and mountains in the background. A e-bike in the foreground. Looking down the street of the old town with cafes along both sides, full of diners during dinner time. The mountains are visible beyond the buildings in the evening light. A look from our train through the window showing the bustling street and an electric bus.

2 years of default urban/village 20mph in Wales has resulted in over 1,000 fewer killed or injured. The data shows a 25% reduction in casualties on the 20/30mph roads. Drivers gain with damage risk, crashes and premiums down. Well done Wales. bit.ly/4ppl030

Neighbors for More Neighbors A2 members showing City Council examples of unobtrusive housing that they would be discouraging by passing a resolution about the Comprehensive Land Use Plan. Our lobbying, including public comments, improved the resolution before it was passed. Photo Credit: Kevin Meerschaert / 89.1 WEMU.

Watching @afcannarbor.com alum Jayde Rivière for Manchester United today vs London City Lionesses in Bromley. Fun game!

Flying out tonight to take my kiddo to their first year at the @guildhallschool.bsky.social, housed (partially) in the Barbican! It really is an amazing place in an incredible city.

I’m not intending to sound combative at all, but bad driving can easily be prevented with good road design. It’s been shown to work all over the world.
jamrine.bsky.social
We redesign the roads. We take things that work in other places and we implement them. None of this is rocket science. When this stretch of road was being redesigned, I lobbied for raised intersections/continuous sidewalks, and a road design that would slow cars. It fell on deaf ears.

Walking past Lawton Elementary this morning, I watched two cars roll through a stop sign, and another one stop in the crosswalk. Are we ever going to actually take action, or are we just going to pretend we care about safety of pedestrians and school children? #a2council

Or replace the extra car lanes with bioswales.
jamrine.bsky.social
I'm saying get ride of a car lane on each side, and expand the bike lanes.
jamrine.bsky.social
I wouldn't sacrifice the empty space, I would sacrifice the second vehicle lane on each side. We don't need two lanes of traffic each way. Especially if we create the opportunities for these other modes of transportation.
jamrine.bsky.social
And how about only one lane of cars in each direction?
jamrine.bsky.social
Shoulda stuck a #COYS in there.
jamrine.bsky.social
Hey #COYSsky, on the not-to-be-named bird site, there were accounts for ticket resales at face value from fan-to-fan. Anything like that here? I am going to be in London for the WHU away match, and would like to see about picking up a couple of tickets.

#A2Council make sure you fill out the Ann Arbor Transportation Survey!

Note that the map input thingies are a little clumsy.

The solutions are there. Let's act on them!

One of the biggest barriers to re-greening cities is the idea every resident is entitled to ten square metres of paved public space on which to store a private vehicle that sits idle for 23.5 hours each day. A notion Reims is slowly challenging, and de-paving its streets one parking space at a time.
A variety of former on-street car parking spaces in the French city of Reims that have been repurposed into small pocket parks of green space containing plants, trees, and flowers. Agreed. Trying to appease cars with the facade of appearing to appease cyclists.
