My book club - average age about 55 - is reading The Dark Is Rising for our December book. So proud!

It's OK to read children's literature as an adult. There are social media platforms dedicated to the annual reading of The Dark Is Rising each December, for instance. About 1/3 of my books are children and young adult, read by me, not my kids.

It also helps foster a generally more positive outlook to have words of affirmation rather than correction :-)

I recently heard car rides described as 'tin tabernacles', so on my drive today I have been listening to the Blind Boys Of Alabama.

A charm of goldfinches. Just a lovely description of lovely birds!

I spotted this on a tree stump at @suffolkwildlife.bsky.social Lackford Lakes the other week. Funghi-spotting is my favourite activity this time of year.

I've been veggie since I was 15, so Bovril doesn't feature for me, but it certainly seems to have dropped from people's diets when it was very present in my childhood (58F). Mind, our snack at one point was sugar and cinnamon on toast, also something I don't know anyone else having!

We progressed to corn stalks, if our paper straw efforts were good enough! I remember having to soak them to make them pliable, not brittle, and the particular smell they had.
