Writing a talk and this doesn’t fit into it: the limits of visibility for human eyes is around 100 microns, and I visited a fiber facility where they make some that are 25 microns. It is PROFOUNDLY weird to feel a fiber that fine against your skin and not be able to see it. It is GHOST FIBER

I have a serious fear of spiders, especially right now, at the spidery time of year. There was just a spider in my office and I made my partner come help and I was like CAN YOU SEE IF IT HAD FRIENDS and told him LOOK IN THE CORNERS, THINK LIKE A SPIDER

I’m a jerk, so I also like to point out that there was a hope at one point that there would be a Nobel for eugenics. I heard (but can’t confirm) that one reason it never happened is that they couldn’t agree on which institution should get to award it.
