I've also seen some open source hardware projects that just consisted of a bunch of schematics. Obviously the target audience for this are people who know what they're doing with electronics (i.e. not me). It's by professionals for professionals. Otherwise you buy the finished product.

Oh and another thing I just thought about. "Accessibility to a broader audience" is not the goal when releasing code. A normal user never interacts with code, the only audience are other devs or package maintainers. If you're a normal user, you just get the prebuilt binary.

Yea don't let people walk all over you, that's not healthy.

But when talking about something I made or did, I just can't galaxybrain myself into thinking it's the bestest thing ever, so it's way easier to be a bit self-deprecating.

Maybe treat missing docs the same way you'd treat a missing feature? Either you can ask nicely for someone else to add them or you put in the work yourself and submit a PR.
January 18, 2026 at 6:52 AM
At the end of the day, writing docs is work that _someone_ has to put in and that also adds nothing to the actual functionality of the software. I like reading them as much as anyone, but I can absolutely understand not wanting to write them.
January 18, 2026 at 6:52 AM
And it's not worth the devs time to write idiot-proof documentation! If you're already getting the code for free, why do you expect to also get service and tutorials for free? In my experience, OSS devs like to work for user numbers the same way artists like to work for exposure. Meaning not at all
January 17, 2026 at 10:19 PM
Obvs I can't speak for the devs of whatever you're trying to compile, but this sounds like crazy entitlement to me.
January 17, 2026 at 10:15 PM
As a software dev who also doesn't like writing docs, I have to hard disagree with you here. I already write the software for free, if you want me to write documentation as well, you can pay me or figure it out yourself 🤷🏻‍♂️ [...]

Haha my experience with e.g. Unity or Blender tells a different story :D Compilers have always given me very descriptive errors, but they never tell you what exactly to do, because there are multiple ways to solve the issue like you said. Which one to do is a matter of knowledge and experience.
January 17, 2026 at 10:09 PM
Sounds like a completely impossible task. If you're earnestly positive about yourself, all you're doing is making yourself vulnerable to assholes trying to talk you down for zero benefit 🤷🏻‍♂️ Self-deprecating humor is mainly a defensive mechanism, and it's incredibly effective.
January 17, 2026 at 9:52 PM
Maybe your mental model of what compiling code actually takes is wrong? You need to provide all the necessary headers and libraries to the compiler, otherwise it's not going to work. Large projects usually have a "building" section in their readme/wiki for exactly this reason.
January 17, 2026 at 9:48 PM
Sounds like that model is the opposite of dumb? Either you have the knowledge of how to do something yourself, or you pay someone for it. Seems like a very reasonable transaction 🤔

No filesystem has been designed with this feature in mind. It would be possible to do it, but it massively complicates things for a almost nonexistent benefit, since extending partitions in general is a very rare operation.
January 17, 2026 at 9:43 PM
Huh? Isn't clang basically a drop-in replacement for gcc? Pretty sure on my old Macbook gcc was actually aliased to clang, lol
January 17, 2026 at 9:37 PM
No I don't, but I've been in wayyy too many worlds with insane voice falloff, that the concept itself has become a big pet peeve of mine
January 17, 2026 at 9:21 PM
Sorry, not sorry, I will always complain about worlds fucking with the voice falloff distance, because it's ass 100% of the time 🤷🏻‍♂️

Hell yea! This might be the first time ever I'm using a different hairstyle on my avi pretty much :D

At least in the EU we have national ID cards, which are different from a passport. You can show either when voting here in Germany, you don't need a passport to vote. And usually you don't need to show anything, just the notification letter is enough.
