Film #6! What did I just watch? Words absolutely fail #spookyfilmfest25
A drawing of a house on a hill in white on black with gravestones down the hill toward the viewer. Closest to the viewer is a forearm coming from the bottom right, with the attached hand holding a knife like there's gonna be some stabbing. The title is under the hand and knife, with all the names and whatnot at the bottom in small print

Film #5! I've been filling in the gaps of unwatched entries in this series, and this is the first to feel a bit like homework. You can really feel the absence of James Wong and Glen Morgan. Still sometimes fun though often unoriginal, and the title choice is baffling. #spookyfilmfest2025
The poster for Final Destination 4,titled for some reason The Final Destination, shows a closeup mirror image of a woman screaming. The mirror is smashed, though, and behind missing pieces you can see a skull, particularly where her mouth should be. It looks dour and like no fun.

Film #4! I've seen clips from this so many times I forgot that I hadn't seen the whole thing. Genre-defining folk horror with absolutely bonkers imagery. A must-see. #spookyfilmfest25
The poster for Blood on Satan's Claw which has a drawing of a cloaked figure with a face you can't quite see. It's holding a naked blonde woman and it's hand holding her head is a claw. There are stylized red flames coming out to the sides of the figure. The title and cast are on the top right.

Film #3! YEEESSSSS!! Much of this movie is the set-up for an absolutely phenomenal final 15 minutes or so. The character of Sam is a condescending jerk and perhaps some elements haven't aged well, but this is still fantastic. Also magnetic child actor steals some of the show. #spookyfilmfest25
The poster for Wait Until Dark has the title in red block letters on a white background, titled at an angle at the top. The image from the movie below the title is cut into three pieces, with some repeated imagery. It shows Audrey Hepburn to the right holding a match in the center of the image. Below left Alan Arkin has a knife in his hand, poking into the floor. He is crawling towards Hepburn.

Film #2! Been curious about this one for a while. There are some nice elements and it's always fun to watch Barbara Hershey run around yelling "fuck!" and it's worth it for that. But overall it was just fine, so much of this had been done before, and the ending was dumb. #spookyfilmfest25
The poster for the Manor which shows Barbara Hershey in a sort of three quarter profile looking down to the left. Her long white hair kind of becomes tree roots. Superimposed over the lower part of her hair and face is a spooky stone house. Everything is sepia toned. The title is going down in the middle over her face

Spooky film fest 2025! Every October I try to catch up on spooky films I've missed or brand new things I'm excited about. Film #1! Promising start but eventually convoluted & disappointing. I actually kinda fell asleep. Distracting wigs & anachronistic-looking take-out coffee cups. #spookyfilmfest25
The poster for night of the reaper shows an empty street with a young woman standing in the middle of it,no one else around. In the swirly cloud-filled sky above her is a skull mask, looking down. It looks like an older movie poster in that it looks like a painting.

Ten years ago today I moved to Dublin to return to undergrad education as a mature student at Trinity College Dublin. I was jetlagged, my luggage was missing, I had no job and only a temporary and awkward place to stay, and Phil was still in the US until December. I think everything turned out ok.
I stand to the right of the photo looking off to the left. It's obviously a selfie. I have sunglasses on and all black clothing. Front Square at Trinity College, the GMB building and part of the Campanie are visible behind me with some tour groups mingling about.
