Hoosier that is adamant that no one actually knows the origin of that word.
Trying to flip Indiana blue while I watch IndyCar.

Putting every senator on the record for all of history isn’t empty.

If you use the included parental controls on every Android & iPhone, you can prevent social media sites from being accessed as a parent. I did that with my children.

Also, mandating RFC 8805 would be a nightmare for so many companies, I don’t actually want it mandatory.
Large corporations typically only touch the Internet at limited points that don’t line up neatly to geography.
It would be quite common for employees in Ohio to have an Illinois IP address.

Still I’m shouting that IP-based geolocation simply isn’t that accurate!
Even excluding VPNs, getting the country right is usually reliable (in North America), but getting the state right still has around a 5% error rate.
Lawmakers are clueless, or they’d mandate RFC 8805.

Regarding speed cameras: good reminder that they can be configured only to save images when there is a violation, instead of recording the movements of those that aren’t break the law.
Same can be said for LPRs: upload the list of stolen / suspected vehicles & alert only on match, no history needed.

I personally like Ubiquiti products, but they’re a bit too technical for many people.

I’ve been searching for a replacement word for “American” that describes citizens of the USA, any suggestions?
February 9, 2026 at 5:19 PM
That’s awful.
And yes, people in small towns learn quickly that the nail that sticks out the most gets hammered down first.
Either people conform, leave (what I did), or spend their whole life under attack.
February 9, 2026 at 5:17 PM
Also, I don’t think enough people understand how core the conservative fantasy of being “normal” is to their identity.
People in these small towns spent their whole life conforming to “normal” & sanding off any unique attributes from their identity.
They’re envious of the freedom of diversity.

It’s one thing that Tim Walz got 100% right, and absolutely needs to be back in the mainstream.

I thought with the Freedom 250, there would be a line of all-American sponsors with suitcases of cash to get in on the action! Can’t imagine any team having funding issues. /s

And they’ve all went to statehood, as I recall, but those wanting independence have criticized that there was some fuckery with the votes.
Regardless, I do want the Congress we’re electing *right now* to commit to listening to PR & enacting their choice.

“Static content should be cached at the CDN”
“Your digital brochure doesn’t need dynamic content”
February 9, 2026 at 3:07 AM
That would be great, too.
My desire would be for an official vote in 2028 to either have complete independence or statehood, and let the people of PR decide.
It seems like the status quo is the worst of both.

Imagine a world where PR has wind, solar, and batteries that are distributed across the island in such a way that the grid can continue to operate in a limited way even with multiple high voltage line disconnects.
A federation of micro-grids.

Binary thinking is so common. People want to sort everyone else into “good” or “evil”.
That’s part of what feeds the “voting for the lesser evil is voting for evil” bullshit.
I genuinely wonder if most humans are capable of thinking in a spectrum, or if those of us that can are just outliers.

I think of this all the time when I couldn’t work out the math for Thursday Night Football on Amazon.
There is no way it makes money, given how much Prime subs are & how me he paid.
But when you think of it in terms of buying favor with NFL team owners, it makes sense

My Irish & German ancestors have quite a few examples of pulling the ladder up behind them.
Some also showed a desire for others to have the same chance they did to immigrate.
People are people, no matter their lineage.

Related: EVs need to do a better job monitoring 12V battery health & notify earlier if it needs replaced.
They get really wonky when low.
