The lack of an algorithm makes it more important to follow people than it is elsewhere. I'm not suggesting that you should follow back everyone who follows you, but it's probably good to be more aggressive in following people than you would elsewhere.

The bsky.social address everyone gets on Bluesky is one “ar” away from my last name (Barsky) and it’s kinda weird. I guess this is how my friends Carl Friendstern, Lola Yahooper, Sergio Linkdennis, Mia Myspacey, and Vladimir Facebooker must have felt when they signed up for social media.
