Thank you #NWSL teams for giving me legit too many options to use for the Take-Off.

Went with the 3 statement performances of the week:

😎 Rose Lavelle and Gotham master making it easy on themselves
🔒 Racing Louisville (finally) lock it down
↔️ Spirit get it wide to devastating effect
NWSL Weekend Take-Off: Gotham FC simplifies while Spirit, Racing plan to perfection
NWSL had a potentially decisive Week 22, with Gotham, the Spirit, and Louisville showing how important it is to have a good plan.

This is the squad that might play the quarterfinals at home.

I completely disagree. Interrupting a game that doesn't stop for any amount of time is not acceptable, and it's not how men's soccer is treated.

I'm not talking about on-air talent or folks in the production truck here. This is a leadership-level decision from the broadcasters and the league.

It's impossible to square the big talk about valuing the product when it comes to media deals with how the product is actually treated.

The profound level of disrespect NWSL broadcasters have shown for the players, teams, fans, and sport itself in 2025 has to change.

love to have NWSL's broadcast partner CBS running a whole CarMax ad during a player substitution and proceed to miss an entire goal by KC Current

absolute amateur hour

Perfect Blue was spectacular, what a movie

I went to bed early last night and just read that Perfect Blue is showing at the AFI for the next 6 days so basically I'm ready to run through a wall

Gabby Carle says her reaction to the Wave goal was to feel "heartbroken" but says the Spirit don't know how to give up.

Adds that she felt the 2nd half became "dirty" from both teams, but that for her the Spirit navigated the high emotions well enough.

We have @roey.bsky.social asking questions in French, much to Kouassi's relief. Sylla still translating:

"When we conceded a goal, everyone was down, but in my head I felt like I could push, push, push."
jasondcsoccer.bsky.social
Rosemonde Kouassi is doing the presser with translation from Kysha Sylla, who once again apologizes for her Englishdespite it being quite good.

Kouassi says 2024 was about adaptation, & that she has found 2025 easier on a personal level.

Deb Abiodun has now played 4 different positions in around 2-3 weeks, & joked about possibly being a goalkeeper next on Wed. night.

@838carlisle.bsky.social asked if that's in her future, which got a laugh out of González.

"No, we are covered."
jasondcsoccer.bsky.social
González discussing how his communication (verbal & non-verbal) can inform or improve emotions on the field.

"When the game is getting that crazy, it's complicated to re-align."

Talks about how body language & eye contact can help more than tactical instruction.

(? from @838carlisle.bsky.social)

González acknowledged that the emotions of the second half are things the Spirit will have to learn from, & emphasized that they have to remember to control what they can control in the moment. Says that's an issue the team will keep working on.
jasondcsoccer.bsky.social
Adrián González says now that the emotions of full time have calmed a bit, this game is one he wants the Spirit to learn from.

Paraphrasing on a longer answer but one of those lessons is how the group sees a game out, & how they make sure to convert a lead/good performance into three points.

Esme Morgan: "When they got the equalizer, I was just like, for goodness sake, because we've had so many chances... But then sometimes, you just get a weird feeling that it's not over. Like I had that quite often at the Euros, and managed to sense it again today."
jasondcsoccer.bsky.social
Adrián González will do his presser soon, but joked passing the mixed zone: "Are you alive?"

When the media confirmed we were and asked how he was doing: "I am not alive."

Equalizer aside, San Diego wasn't able to capitalize on any potential opportunities in the second half. Their single quality chance of the game nearly secured them a point, until Rose Kouassi cashed in some finishing luck at the death.
jasondcsoccer.bsky.social
lol never mind, Kouassi's cross somehow, someway, in the deep depths of the 98th minute, finds the bottom corner. Unreal ending at Audi.
jasondcsoccer.bsky.social
Sheridan saved 3 1v1s in this game, & San Diego has an equalizer from basically their only chance in the 90 minutes.

Gonna be a lot of ref talk, but I'd be remiss if I didn't say the Spirit should have buried this game long ago.
