Lots of leftover bits from the MKIII marines that I used to build GK strikes quads. Tested out putting one of the bolters on a Frostgrave mini. I think I'll paint him as a tzeentchian chaos cultist.

Another day passed without incident, save for Luath becoming ever more taciturn. On their fourth evening, Luathaelar told the villagers that he would pay them well if they brought him strong staves of white ash. He spent all night cutting the staves into spans the length of his arm and refused any help. In the morning, Luath slept huddled by the smoldering fire pit, and by afternoon had woken and begun to sharpen the rods at one end and carve inscriptions along the shafts of the heavy stakes. He told Saira only that he was preparing himself for the inevitable.

The fog broke, and evening began to tint the sky. Back in Crossroads or Bardwell, bells would soon be ringing for sundown, but the city was silent. The circles of the dead were endless, beyond count as they passed them by. As they came nearer the city, though, they found many damaged, the bones shattered and strewed. Sometimes there was a fresher corpse among the disturbed circles, bloody and fetid. And when the fog cleared, a darker sight came into view. Above the city, as though suspended from puppets’ strings, hung a great dragon’s visage, straining against a net of silken shadows. A mist of dark water poured from its rupturing bonds, down into the city, oily black. Its flesh glistened like polished obsidian but was broken by cracks, from which flowed a blood of silver light. The pitiless stars of its eyes beheld them in the dim gloaming. The dragon they had seen in the city’s center, ancient Vodoniathan, firstborn of primeval Beladar. It had not loomed so over the ruined city when last they were here.

And Phaedo was a very odd troll. Like others of his kind, he was of great stature, with a hunched, muscular build and a bulbous chest. He was paler than most, lacking the expected ruddiness, though his long nose was colored like a blunt carrot. Most unusually, he wore purple robes of fine make and sported a pair of small gnomish spectacles. He set down a bulgy travelling pack and leaned on his columnar walking stick, appearing dismayed by the ferrymaster’s behavior.

The span of the break was little greater than Tamlin’s height, but as they descended farther, circling the glass pillar, it held no more movement. Their lanterns pushed back the darkness only as far as the next turn of the circling ramp. As they went, Tamlin kept one eye turned back over his shoulder, but nothing approached them from behind. The way had been sealed.

The second was Tamlin, and he was of Yaeor. His skin was the blue of the sky. His shoulders split into six long arms, and his eyes were oily black. From far in the mist, a bell rang, and he turned his gaze toward Saira.
