Seriously questioning if he knows how to play football sometimes
January 4, 2026 at 8:16 PM
Whenever someone posts some "Here were the greatest games from [Year]" list, my nonconformist ass usually has played like 3 out of 50 of them.

I played 5 of these 10, finishing all of them except GTA III.

Football is a conspiracy to sell us Netflix programs

They know only us old people are watching the games today, so they made them for senior eyes

I'm still amazed that Happy Feet and Mad Max are both George Miller films.

Nintendo (and before that, Atari 2600)

For me and Morrowind, I think that answer would be "no." I can think of how good it was to play it, and love that I did, without thinking that gaming has changed for the worse since. Sad as it is, that feeling is something I can't ever replicate and I'll just have to live with that.

Try this thought exercise: Your memory of a game you played ~20 years ago is completely wiped. You *can* play it again for the first time, and it'll be just the same as when you first did.

Do you still play it? Or would you rather play a newer game, watch Netflix, be with your kids, etc.?

Some people love retro games and that's great! But every time I see one of those, "Man, remember when WoW was good?" or similar, I can't help but think a lot of that isn't because of the game itself but because of the person's life situation when they were heavily into that game.

Mostly, I'll never be that age again. None of us will when we first played our favorite game, whether it was playing WoW in college or Halo in high school or Mario Party with your family.

I've mostly ignored the retro game craze because I know that I can't achieve that kind of joy again.

The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind was the first game I got when I got a fancy new PC in 2003. Played it almost nonstop for four months.

I've glanced at it on Steam but I don't really want it. Apart from being old and clunky, I realize I'm not in the same situation I was in 2003.

Now you've got me thinking of Warrant's "I Saw Red":

"And if the sun should ever fail to send its light /
We would burn a thousand candles and make everything all right"

I'm no astronomer, but I think it'd take more than a thousand candles to replace the sun.

My Mom used to tell me how much she loved that movie. I watched it after she died in her honor. It was great.

Justin Jefferson seems like such a decent all-around guy, I'm petrified of what we'll eventually find out about him.
