I've heard these called "dark patterns", and they're insidious. Turning good and effective game design into a psychological weapon against the player is always something to be guarded against.

Have you heard anything about changes in students in other countries, on other continents? That could help distinguish between societal issues and more global ones like Covid and AI proliferation.

In addition to what others have said, also keep in mind that the cart's horizontal movement should appear to slow down as it gets farther away, due to perspective, if you continue to use a shrinking effect.
