"jaxcheese to the sky"
I'm here now and will post either more or less than before.
big updates on musicking activities also available on jaxcheese.net
thank you & hello

this was so so good the style and the script are really compelling (was a refreshing oasis in the rest of that movie LOL).. really excited to see your next thing
jaxcheese.bsky.social
god bless anyone who has actually read all of "the making of americans"! unfathomable

close to the end of this volume.. I don't like her work now as much as I once thought I did. periodic charms, sonorities and compelling puzzles but so much just feels like an exercise. I liked "four saints in three acts" a lot more than "tender buttons" which I was initially pretty excited about

these would map perfectly on to a sega saturn six button controller

I believe this is what they call an "option select". the strong forms take significantly longer though, risky!

new update to the meta. I knew of "brava" for a woman soloist before, but just now I worked on a tape where a guy called out "bravi" after the dittersdorf viola&bass concertante. apparently that's the right form for groups. so it's about more than just reaction time, you need to know the vocabulary
jaxcheese.bsky.social
thinking about this again bc I just heard two guys do it perfectly in sync while processing an old pops tape. seems like the viable window is about 0.8s and the optimal pronunciation takes about 0.5s. not quite frame perfect but still challenging, these guys must practice to live recordings at home

wonder what it's like to be the guy who says BRAVO in the tiny gap between the last note and the applause. listening to Ravel: Piano Trio in A Minor and suddenly a quick time event appears

final goodbye to my home of ~20 months. like me, it was sometimes warm and loud and sometimes cold and quiet, it contained many mysteries, and it occasionally smelled a little funny
screenshot of a twitter post from january 7 2024 by @jaxcheese. the post reads "livin in the city" and there are three cropped photos: 1. a small figure of dr. eggman holding an emerald, sitting in a windowsill with a snowy road visible through the window. 2. a desk with a laptop, a stuffed toy of kk slider, and a few other things on it. there are posters of the sonic the hedgehog (mega drive) box art and a work by kandinsky on the wall. 3. a record player sitting on a table beside two crates full of records. small perler bead sculptures of two characters from kero blaster lean against a cd player on the bottom tier of the table the same windowsill from the other photo. eggman is conspicuously missing and it is dark outside

my ongoing galaxy brain take on this sort of dilemma is still that you absolutely should buy games that you don't like and which are terrible for you and you can't finish. I do this all the time and it's much more horrible and meaningful than "enjoying a game," gross

I don't wanna blow any one particular person up but seeing some "Why did the dev of this hard game release another hard game this is unfair to unskilled players like me" going around and I'd just like to ask "why the fuck did you buy did you buy the game??????"

like you can make decisions!!

without the encouragement of those two and some friends who listened early I probably would not have been brave enough to push this funny little thing over the finish line... thanks everyone and thank you for listening <3

there's an alternate cut of the video on youtube featuring some really cute paper frogs crafted and filmed by @corneaga.bsky.social youtu.be/beEaIHIavNc

and the terrific master was done by @ilkae.bsky.social with a little assistance from time trials

I wrote and sang a song for the new 10th anniv @staffcirc.bsky.social album!!! it was an honor to celebrate this special occasion with a bunch of musicians I have admired for years... I'm pretty new to this kind of songwriting so you will have to forgive the rough edges (but I plan to do more soon!)

wow first time I've heard about this. interesting stuff
jaxcheese.bsky.social
listened to em both the right way today. would it be a blasphemy to say vol 2 > vols 1&2 played simultaneously > vol 1. I might try it again like on purpose
jaxcheese.bsky.social
tried listening to aphex twin "selected ambient works" for the first time yesterday and youtube somehow started playing vol 2 at the same time in the same tab and I didn't realize for like 20 minutes. it was kinda hip actually. "wow the asynchronous rhythms seem way ahead of his time" etc

about 15 minutes in they say "wario" at the same time and wario begins to rhythmically shake a bag of coins in the background for the next half hour
jaxcheese.bsky.social
someone should do a youtube video essay in the style of those glenn gould radio docs. "the monstrous avarice of wario land shake it" but there's an old woman musing on the psychology of greed in your left ear and a young businessman explaining the hardware inside the wiimote in your right ear
