Little bit of Halloween decor on the multi-teir altar that I took down today . . . btw don't burn candles like this, I was like 'well I can light them for the picture for like 10 seconds it probably won't burn the top of the shelf that quickly' (it did lol)
top of an open bookshelf I'm using as an altar. the top has a carved Tree of Life on an orange leaf-patterned fabric. the shelf below is the halloween shelf. close-up of halloween shelf. it has a black cloth covered in a jack-o-lantern pattern (white, orange, green and purple pumpkins). in the center is an hourglass with black sand and a pair of golden skulls sitting inside each base of the hourglass, so that the falling sand falls upon the skull and slowly buries it. in front of the hourglass is a bat-shaped shallow dish with a white-and-orange color gradient. inside the dish are some large acorns. there is also a pair of orange taper candles on either side of the shelf, inside clear glass skull candle-holders. the candles are lit but because they're tall tapers they're too close to the top of the shelf above it, putting little scorch marks above the flame which don't actually touch the shelf but are too close for safety. don't light tall tapers too close to shelves like this, don't be me.

Why are you like this
Small brown tabby cat sprawled across a recliner. Her back leg is propped awkwardly up on the arm of the chair while the rest of her body lays flat. Her front paws are jammed into the chair back and you can see a skin fold on her back from where she is mashed so hard into the cushion.

Today's walk, I love fall so much. The mushroom is some kind of milkcap I think. There were lots of them.
A tan-colored mushroom among the leaflitter and clovers. It has a concave shape. A creek with trees growing along its shore, some of the yellow and red leaves dotting the surface of the water.

Did a very simple cupcake for Halloween, good old dirt and worms
A festive pumpkin-decorated plastic tray with chocolate cupcakes, which have chocolate frosting coated in cookie breadcrumbs that look like dirt, and gummi worms crawling on them.

Found a beetle shell on my walk today.
a smooth black empty beetle shell in my hand. the underside of the shell, perfectly clean and empty. there's an orange oval-shaped bump on the side, not sure what it is.

Went to an antique store and bought my first ever piece of uranium glass, a citrus reamer!!
A pure glass citrus reamer (for juicing citrus fruits) under a UV light, which makes it glow a vivid, almost unnatural green color

I have also noticed a species of ant that is far, far smaller than any species I've seen before. (I recently moved to this area)
It has to be no larger than 1mm. This is a photo of it on pavement. When pavement looks like a craggy field of rocks, you know the photo is close up.

Glossy black ant. There are two pale stripes visible on its abdomen. The ant's body is pretty short, giving it a sort of 'chibi' appearance.

Spied this hoverfly on a chicory flower, one of the very few things blooming right now this dry summer.

A pale purple flower with pinwheel-like petals, with a fly perched on it. The fly has a fat yellow abdomen striped in black, which ends in a taper. Same flower and fly, but the fly has its face shoved into the flower's center. Lost in the sauce.
