Me, 37 year old nerd, explaining to my spouse (who didn't read fiction at all until they met me) the phenomenon of sci-fi and fantasy books having covers that have very little to do with their contents. This embarrassment is so old I forgot it existed.

Linzi got me The Book of Bill for Christmas and I'm trying to explain to them what The Stinky Cheese Man is and why a Gravity Falls book having that vibe is an A++++ experience.

I haven't giggled at/with a book this much in a long time.

Whoever sent us beautiful little books from Obvious State: thank you! They are delightful, and we love them, and we have no idea who gave them to us!

Me (putting the grill away): As the propane store in Boise's sign has always said, "tank heaven for little grills".
Linzi: ..."thank heaven for little girls"? What?
Me: My parents insisted it was a reference to a song.
TURNS OUT: IT IS. Still, the sign has been up since time immemorial.

The name "Popular Science" doesn't mean we shift our coverage depending on public opinion. It means we cover relevant subjects that are rigorously researched, reliable, and grounded in reality.

And trans lives are grounded in reality.

We see y'all. No matter what.

First-of-a-kind study shows encouraging data for trans kids who socially transition
Ninety-four percent of participants in a new study stood firm in their trans identity after five years, and "detransitioning" is rare.

I'm really unhappy with my latest comic but instead of throwing it away I'm just pressing through to finish it. This may be a mistake and it might be the right thing to do.

I suppose that covers the possibilities.

Bottom line is I'm never having more than, like, four people in a comic, again.

"Crazy how it rips off Cyberpunk 2077." --reddit, about a standard-looking cyberpunk game.
CYBERPUNK 2077 IS JUST VERY STANDARD CYBERPUNK. BECAUSE THE CYBERPUNK 2013/2020/2077 UNIVERSE IS KIND IF THE STANDARD CYBERPUNK UNIVERSE. THIS IS OKAY. GENRES EXIST.

You love "Rockin' the Suburbs" for its title track, reveling in the irony and satire while ignoring its criticisms. I love "Rockin' the Suburbs" for its harsh portraits of bleak middle class life.

You should listen to it with this frame in mind.

I made a 4 page comic for Root & Stem about Gen-AI which is pretty funny, if I do say so.

The whole magazine is very cool, with a goal of making STEM available to remote and Indigenous communities.

I have been proclaiming for years that "hey can you jump on a call?" is a great way to make the recipient think they're about to be fired. It was quite vindicating, this summer, to get this message for the umpteenth time and finally be correct.

Spoiler alert: Quentin Tarantino no doubt has strong opinions you do not agree with.

More news at eleven.

But seriously how are people still talking about this?

Okay, hunter's journal complete, all relics turned in, all tools/spools/masks acquired. I'm missing two mementos (the final race and the carnival games) but you know what: that's enough. That's enough Silksong.

There was a time in this country, a great time, where a man could ask for some spare change, just to get his car fueled up, just to get away, and everyone within hearing range would reply "Yep!" What a concept.

I'm rereading IT, sort of because it's October and sort of because the themes struck me and sort of because it is, truly, one of my comfort books. Few books make me feel as warm and happy, or make me smile and laugh, as IT. It makes me nostalgic for childhood like nothing else.
