“Those pitches don’t get hit, let alone that high off the foul pole, staying straight for that long.”

Great column from Ken on an amazing October swing by Judge

The playoff Dodgers are "a team that we did not see during the regular season"

On the new Starkville, Eduardo Perez & Tim Kurkjian make us laugh & think with great October insight

They also talk future of baseball on ESPN - & booking copters, not Ubers!

on the Aaron Judge home run off the pole:

99.7 MPH is the fastest pitch he's ever hit for a homer

1.2 feet is the furthest-inside pitch he's ever hit for a homer

Players who have homered in at least 3 straight postseason games against the Yankees:

Vlad Guerrero Jr. 2025 - 3
Freddie Freeman 2024 - 4
Randy Arozarena 2020 - 3
Bengie Molina 2005 - 3
Juan Gonzalez 1996 - 4

Kyle Schwarber, Bryce Harper & Trea Turner are 2 for 21, with 11 strikeouts and 4 walks, in this NLDS.

So for my column today in @theathletic.com I asked Schwarber: Have your stars done enough in this series?

He was as accountable as ever.

New column:

For 6 months, the Phillies' formula to win was simple

They had a better starting pitcher than you
Their stars were better than your stars
Their home-field advantage was better than your home-field advantage

Then the Dodgers came to town

Shohei Ohtani in Game 1:
1 hit to the last 17 hitters he faced

Blake Snell in Game 2:
0 hits to the first 13 hitters he's faced

1 hit allowed to 30 hitters
That's what the Dodgers starters have been doing to everyone for the last 4 weeks
jaysonst.bsky.social
An incredible stat through the first 3 innings:

11 swings by the Phillies' at Blake Snell non-fastballs
11 misses

There hasn't been a good swing at Snell yet

“It’s like having the answers to the test."

Thanks to Andy Pages and Matt Strahm, October pitch-tipping is a massive topic right now.

Read this incredibly in-depth piece from @TheAthleticMLB and you'll understand why.

The first 4 innings in Toronto:

Blue Jays - 11 runs

Yankees - 2 balls in play

One of the most shocking games in both teams’ postseason history
jaysonst.bsky.social
Before last night happened, the Phillies had played 20 postseason games in Philadelphia where they took a lead of 3+ innings into the 6th inning.

Their record in those games was 19-1, with the fabled 15-14 game in the ‘93 World Series as the only loss.

Now…make that 19-2

New LDS Weird & Wild!

A guy who hit 55 HR got to pitch!

The Brewers paraded 20 hitters to the plate in 2 innings!

The Blue Jays did something they’d barely done since Joe Carter’s HR!

And the Tigers are now asking: Collapse? What collapse?

Plus...weirdest K ever?

That’s all, folks
