The conservative Supreme Court justices sincerely believe that discrimiantion against Christians is the most urgent civil rights crisis of our time, and they are going out of their way to take and decide cases that allow them to correct these injustices

How conservative activists are building a shared cultural understanding about who deserves the law’s protections, and who does not.

The easiest way to tell how a culture war Supreme Court case will go is to ask how much of *themselves* the conservative justices see in the person asking for the law’s protections

I think you should also know - you are often still audible to the person who put you on hold on most call center systems. From experience, you can get some pretty wild pickups on the other end - mute is key lol

Airline customer service rep told me I’d be on hold for 5-10 minutes, so I figured it was safe to go pee. She came back 90 seconds later right as the toilet was audibly flushing. I could hear her barely suppressing a laugh as she told me she’d successfully updated my account mailing address.

Yes this was a joke about what a loser Dan is, and I think it’s telling that it’s even a little bit hard to tell

Wait, did that actually happen? You're joking with me, right? Please tell me it's a joke, Jay.

I wouldn't know, I checked out right after he used a question for Barrett about "how hard Supreme Court justices work" to mention to her that he's "been working out a lot lately," and people have "really been noticing it"

Anything of interest in that interview? And you have my sympathies for reading it
jaywillis.net
Not to get too armchair psychologist, but my guess is that Barrett had spent most of her adult life getting chatted up by fawning conservative men who look like thumbs, and an hour of Dan McLaughlin workshopping his worst one-liners sounds like a fucking nightmare

Amy Coney Barrett did a big sit-down interview with Baseball Crank over at the National Review, and I can’t believe I’m saying this, but she actually has my sympathies for having to force a laugh after Crank opened their conversation with this
A Conversation with Justice Barrett
By DAN MCLAUGHLIN
October 3, 2025 6:30 AM What follows, edited slightly for print, is the first half of my conversation with her. (The second half can be found here.)
NR: So I have to say, as a child of the '70s, it's a little weird to me to be interviewing a Supreme Court justice who's younger than I
am.
JUSTICE BARRETT: [Laughs]

I've spent a decent amount of time on this website arguing that Anthony Kennedy is a simpleton who is worthy only of your scorn, so I appreciate him filling his new memoir with stories like this one, which demonstrate that I was even more correct than I imagined
Here Is Anthony Kennedy’s Heartwarming Story About the Time Antonin Scalia Humiliated Him In Public
Even the highest-profile victims of Scalia’s rage are doing credulous hagiography about him.

Thrilled to learn that Kaley Chiles, who is the face of the ADF's challenge to Colorado's ban on the pseudoscience of "gay conversion therapy," offers her clients "loose-leaf tea" in her "tranquil bungalow," just terrific stuff www.nytimes.com/2025/10/05/u...
Can Conversion Therapy Be Banned? Colorado Faces Speech Test at the Supreme Court.
Colorado and more than 20 other states restrict therapists from trying to change the gender identity or sexual orientation of clients under age 18. Ann E. Marimow

When Kaley Chiles welcomes therapy clients to her tranquil bungalow of an office, she offers loose-leaf tea and asks what brings them to counseling, what’s causing distress and how she can help them meet their goals.

Last week, I wrote about the impact of the Alliance Defending Freedom's aggressive PR campaigns humanizing its anti-LGBTQ clients, so I appreciate the New York Times illustrating my point by immediately running a credulous, soft-focus profile of an anti-LGBTQ Alliance Defending Freedom client
