I initially learned about their connection from the film “Dick” about Dick Cheney & Bush W. Which is great, btw. If you haven’t seen it, it’s worth a watch.

It’s called No Country for OLD Men, after all. That’s why the Coens initially asked for James Brolin, not his son, James.
jbaileywrites.bsky.social
Another funny story here. The Coens actually wanted to hire James Brolin for the role of Llewelyn. His son, Josh, had the same agent as his father at the time. Agent confused the two & sent the younger Josh to audition instead. The Coens hired him mostly bc they were impressed, but also embarrassed

Of course, Kavanaugh’s close relationship w Starr was overshadowed during his confirmation hearings due to his own sexual misconduct allegations, so most of America doesn’t even know he was the major force pushing the Clinton scandal.
jbaileywrites.bsky.social
My favorite thing about this is that Brett Kavanaugh was a key member of Starr’s legal team investigating Clinton& was the one who insisted on including all the explicit sexual language in court & in the final report. He’s a loathsome reptile.

Hahaha. Sounds exactly like something a malignant narcissist would do.

But in this case, I do believe the women.

I cannot wait to not watch this.

WTF is in those files, man? Apparently enough really bad shit to topple a government.

Mike Johnson needs to just go ahead & swear in Rep. Grijalva & be done w Donald, MAGA & their nonsense. We have a country to fix.

Welcome! Shoot me a DM if you need anything else. I have some books I can look at for primary sources in the footnotes.

I studied the Medici family, so I know a bit about their personal history. During the early Renaissance, the Church was cracking down on public displays of wealth, so private banquets were a way to really show off.

Most Medici men had gout or gout-like diseases due to a diet of mostly fatty meats

Giovanni Villani's “Chronicle” 1300s has an English edition.

It’s more about statistics, like how much food was being consumed, what kind & by whom, etc.

It’s a fantastic primary source for stats, less so for culture & ritual surrounding Florentine food.

Covers pre, during and post Black Death
jbaileywrites.bsky.social
“The Decameron” by Boccaccio is a good place to start. 1350-ish. Set during the Black Death. Lots of dining & elaborate banquets as the settings for the characters to tell their stories. Countryside around Florence, as they’ve fled the city.

There are several contemporary recipe books published circa 1400-1500s.

I would look 1st to paintings & murals for elite food culture, as well as books on the Medici & other wealthy families. They weren’t shy abt flaunting

Florentines were obsessive record keepers so look at Guild records, too.

It’s not. I spent a couple of hours trying to source it. This is all I could find.

We should try calling executions “post-birth abortions.”

I keep my account open bc I still haven’t figured out how to get all my photos off there & bc I live in Yucatán rn & use the local pages for practical info, like where to find an English-speaking doctor or something like that. I don’t engage anymore.

This makes it easier for bad actors & naive users to spread misinformation, propaganda & lies, which in turn draws more eyeballs, which ultimately leads to a more superficial user experience, but highly profitable to FB

It’s a complete waste of time for thoughtful people.
