Trump’s deployment of federal troops has cost taxpayers nearly $500 million so far — and could surpass $1 billion for the rest of the year.

That’s after slashing SNAP and Medicaid, letting ACA subsidies expire, and gutting countless other federal programs.

Priorities.

Two Texas Monthly journalists were driving through West Texas last week when they became the story themselves.

The Latino reporters were pulled over three times, first by a local county officer in Sanderson, then by ICE near Presidio, and finally by DPS outside of Marfa.
‘It just felt so targeted’: Texas Monthly journalists detail multiple run-ins with law enforcement
DPS, ICE and county officers stopped the two. They say the experience left them particularly unsettled after learning of the killing of Alex Pretti by Border Patrol officers in Minneapolis.

I was asked to share this by a friend who a minister and activist in Minneapolis. Today ICE murdered a man in the streets for no good reason. It was an unhinged, immoral execution

Share this far and wide to help spread the word and to let Minneapolis know that we all stand with them.

Photo by Pierre Lavie. Yes this is me. And I threw my Leica. It landed on the bass plate with hardly a scratch. Another Photographer grabbed it along with my phone and I was able to track him later. I was held face down tear gas deployed right in front of me and pepper sprayed directly into the eye.

Yep, a stealth heat tax. Also known as climate-flation, or the steadily rising costs of climate impacts. Talk to everyone you know about this and fossil-flation, the steadily rising costs of our dependency on fossil fuels, and you have the beginnings of a new kind of economic populism.

It wasn’t until researching this article that I realized quite how bad the Big Beautiful Bill is for clean energy — reduced royalty rates for fossil fuels, a gutting of fuel economy standards, and subsidies for biofuels & coal, along with the IRA cuts we all knew

‘Big Beautiful Bill’ will have Americans paying higher prices for dirtier energy
The new federal law favors energy technologies that are already profitable and increase global warming over cleaner approaches that could use the investment support.
