What Jane Goodall showed me about hope
I find it hard to believe Jane Goodall is gone. She was more than an icon to me. She was a friend, a mentor, and someone whose presence—whether with presidents, students, or my own children—felt like…

Tawny Frogmouth (Podargus strigoides): 53cm (21in). This is a species of frogmouth native to the Australian mainland & Tasmania. It is a big-headed, stocky bird, often mistaken for an owl due to nocturnal habits & similar colouring. Fantastic image taken by David Ashley in Perth, Western Australia.

Travelling by #train is my preferred method of transportation. I also enjoy traveling by #bus & #tram - but unless you live in a #city it’s not sustainable ( #time & #money ). Today because my car is in for repair I am improving my #carbon footprint but it’s is taking twice the time & cost.

Many highlights today @greifswaldmoor.bsky.social from #peatland #economics to eating #peat - It tasted like chocolate! An incredible expansion of the #paludi fair from a one man band that was and is #Aldert to this in just a few years. The list of paludiculture products is growing.

Fascinating talk about the conflict between conservation organisations and the #reed cutting industry by Andy Dobson @greifswaldmoor.bsky.social #RRR2025 - a more equitable power model is required.

Interesting points re #gender & #social & #human capital in #wetland management @greifswaldmoor.bsky.social #RRR2025 from UCD’s Dr Kate Flood: 30% of farms in #Ireland are owned by #women many on #peat - improve social resilience to improve ecological resilience (Dr Kate Flood, UCD).

Looking forward to expanding my ‘peaty’ network of academics and stakeholders in the interests of mitigating #climatechange and in support of landscape recovery. @greifswaldmoor.bsky.social #RRR2025 #paludiculture #SDG #biodiversity #waterresources

When I consider my personality I would use the words #nomad #freespirit and #orang-utan. I love to be walking, travelling, exploring. I do not like to be tied and I prefer to be paired, alone or in small, sometimes transient, groups. Travelling to Germany today all these traits will be expressed.

As I prepare for the return of our Level 5 students I will be developing a new module on #animalbehaviour and #behaviouralecology - it is great to have some current research on #cognition
