Communications professional; Habs fan; Tar Heel for life #GDTBATH; Montreal will have a baseball team again one day (hopefully while I'm alive)
I guess their plan is to underperform their talent level every year.

And more high end youth coming!

This!

The play driving will (hopefully) come. Not many 2nd lines on winning teams where the oldest player is 22. This experience they are getting now will hopefully be huge in a couple of years
January 9, 2026 at 1:46 AM
That line is so young they are all likely to still improve, though of course that stops somewhere. He has the family genes on his side too!
January 9, 2026 at 1:43 AM
That might be true. He is also 22 years old and none of us are Nostradamus so I think it is also perfectly fine to acknowledge that he in fact may be the longterm 2nd line centre when you consider Hughes doesn't seem to have ruled that out. Bottom line, enjoy this run and let future unfold!

Such an embarrassment for Canadian leadership/management.

Thanks for all of your game recaps by the way!

I get what you're saying and it makes sense. My point is that these kids should at least get an invite and chance to prove whether they belong or not. After all Canada's D wasn't exactly top notch other than Parekh providing alot of offense. And again, not even an invite for Hage last year?
January 5, 2026 at 6:56 AM
Agreed but it would help if we at least invited our best players.
January 5, 2026 at 6:51 AM
100% this
January 5, 2026 at 6:46 AM
Perhaps bring the most deserving players not the ones that have likely always been part of the "in" cliques. Just one example - based on how he is playing, Pickford doesn't even get invite? Hage last year? Yes I'm a #Habs fan but I'm sure there are more examples.
January 5, 2026 at 6:43 AM
In a couple of years perhaps that last piece monster on the 4th line is Thorpe, Tuch or Paupenikis. Or two of them with Florian and the third line is Zharovsky, Hage and Bolduc (leave the kid line alone and Dach with Caufield and Suzuki).
January 4, 2026 at 11:38 PM
If the result is similar to Suzuki being left off the 4 Nations the rest of the league best watch out (same goes for Caufield).

That's a wild boar!
December 27, 2025 at 10:20 PM
Nailed it - the certainty that we as fans (or pundits) know the ceiling of these players better than the professionals tasked with running the team. Watching the WJC, I kind of wish we had TWO small Hutsons on the Habs.

They are so fun to watch now and only getting better. Just enjoy the ride!

Most importantly, no matter what we as fans think, Marty clearly loves him and his "computer" so I put much more weight in that. Regarding the Panthers being loaded, first off, hopefully that's what this team will be also when ready to contend for cup annually (HuGo (and Bobrov) leading them there)
December 27, 2025 at 9:17 PM
Not true. How many points did Sam Bennett have each of the last two years for the two-time defending champs?
December 27, 2025 at 8:53 PM
Perhaps it would have been a good idea to at least invite Protz and Pickford.
December 27, 2025 at 2:58 AM
Personally I think Danault is the better defensive player and more reliable. Dvorak also hurt too often until last year.
December 20, 2025 at 4:34 AM
Got him for Columbus' 2nd! Hughes is a magician. Four centres who take defense seriously in Suzuki, Kapanen, Danault and Evans.
December 20, 2025 at 4:26 AM
Great read, as always (I feel like a broken record)! Agree with the assessment of the D. I feel Engstrom may be the 6th D when Guhle comes back, looks so comfortable, smooth and smart. Perhaps also when Carrier's contract is up, since Engstrom can play RD (and is bigger and a better offensively).

Imagine Lane setting him up if even a bit of that goal scoring ability translates to the NHL in a few years
