I think a lot of dysfunction on here comes from the idea that suffering makes you right and the more you suffer, the righter you are. Thus, whenever a person who is in some way disadvantaged disagrees with you, it becomes imperative to argue they aren't the right kind of trans, black, etc.
namitomoon.bsky.social
I've seen in some left-leaning circles a weird obsession of labelling white trans people as racists or saying there's a huge epidemic of KKK racism among the trans community and can't help but think is basically this but with transphobia

Theres a strange irony that Podcasts went the same route as television (being innovative when it first arrived but becoming dull and repetitive by the late 60s).
tmcallister.bsky.social
among other things, a real bummer that podcasts have largely been homogenized into a worse version of daytime TV, just longform video featuring people who know nothing, talking about nothing, for way too long, but also they're ugly and the staging is boring

Some scoops in here: Adam O'Neal is telling people he will helm The WaPo's flagship opinion podcast, spending upwards of four hours a day on it. He's also indicated, per a source, that he plans to remain in his current job for decades. www.status.news/p/washington...

Meyer Lansky comes to mind. A Polish-Jew born in Russia who founded the National Crime Synidicate with Lucky Luciano in the US.

During WW2 he broke up American Bund rallies.

A lot of their behaviour makes sense given that their feeds are a stream of atrocity porn with online figures profitting from the algorithm.

It's why you get interactions such as them explaining in detail the starvation but not knowing anything about Bibi's life, the one causing the suffering.

Also in what they hate. They're always hawkish about something (usually the middle east)

Her explicit reason for leaving, by the way, was that when she live-tweeted a staff meeting and accused her colleagues of hating free speech and they publicly pushed back, management refused to discipline them for arguing with her. You can understand most contemporary media dynamics from that alone.

It's amazing how everyone supporting her seems to forget she wasn't cancelled at all. She quit. And almost immediately was able to launch this new publication. How the hell was she cancelled?

Some people criticized shitty takes. That's not being cancelled.
elivalley.bsky.social
As one of the countless people *actually* cancelled by Bari Weiss, via her vast favor-trading networks of fellow nepotistic gatekeepers in media and publishing, I think both of these asinine dipshits should go fuck themselves.

(For clarification: I'm for a two state, though that position is difficult to obtain at the moment).

If one doesn't treat these subjects with the seriousness that it deserves then they should be treated as unserious people.

For me it's simple logic. I understand why Israel as a concept exists and how disgusting the Islamaphobes who latch onto that side to support their blood lust are. Why would I indulge Antisemitism (a murderous prejudice) just because the person evokes Palestinian suffering while doing?

I had friends who were affected on both sides of the conflict so I had to make my views clear (to them at least). In general, bigots want you to hate and are disgusted by the fact that you, rightfully, are uncomfortable with the idea of doing it.

I had to listen to youtube without premium recently. I was stunned by the number of AI-generated ads that were selling snake oil.
quoproquid.bsky.social
why exactly do we allow youtube to operate while shoveling users the world's most shady and disconcerting ads? surely this is a consumer protection issue.
jdkessey.bsky.social
It's just not very useful either?

Along with shitting on people for realising something, it makes them feel way worse than is necessary.

I like Bsky more than any social platform I’ve used, but my goodness it has big “I knew them before they were cool” energy.

You mention something bad: “are you surprised?” You mention something good: “I knew about that WAY before you.” This is an exhausting, anti-social way to interact, you guys.

that users could prefer a generated simulation to actual old clips for nostalgia purposes clarifies how nostalgia is about consuming "decontextualization" in itself — nostalgia negates history under the auspices of longing for it
nitishpahwa.com
YouTube has a legit library of recordings from quotidian settings (which are interesting, mostly as historical markers) but instead of promoting that social media pushes soulless facsimiles solely meant to associate a feeling with a moment sans the immediate, substantive context
