Monstrous.

"federal agents detained nearly every resident of the 130-unit building—including children and babies—placing them in zip ties and separating them by race into vans for more than two hours early Tuesday morning."

Good reporting on the South Shore raid from South Side weekly here.

Confirms one thing I was told but didn't put in my own piece because I didn't have a second source and it seemed too insane: border agents segregated arrested residents by race

I love this part: "This document is that stupid. Whoops. That’s more belittlement."

The media trots out the "deplorable" comment from a decade ago to castigate the left. Once a week now Trump implies that the military should destroy democrats, and it is just how things are.

God damnit NYT, cite the statute! People should read the laws their government is breaking.

31 USC 5114(b): "Only the portrait of a deceased individual may appear on United States currency and securities."
ericlipton.nytimes.com
It is not clear that Mr. Trump’s image can be featured on a coin. An 1866 law enshrined a tradition that only deceased people could appear on U.S. currency to avoid the appearance that America was a monarchy. Trump admin is planning to do it anyway.

This is what authoritarians do - use the powers of the state to humiliate and degrade their opponents in public so that others will not challenge them

“The source told CBS News that [Kash Patel and Dan Bongino] asked for "large, beefy" agents to conduct an arrest of Comey "in full kit," including Kevlar vests and exterior wear emblazoned with the FBI logo.” The leadership of the FBI is now in the hands of infantile psychopaths.
The FBI is weighing an arrest and perp walk for Comey — and suspended an agent for refusing to help, sources say
The FBI is considering carrying out a "showy" arrest and perp walk of the agency's now-indicted ex-Director James Comey, sources tell CBS News.

It’s odd Vance is trolling on gratitude because I’ve noted before his complete lack of gratitude to anyone who helps him.
Extended family takes him in… he writes book about what losers they are.
Mentored at Yale? Take it down.
Ohio makes him senator? Suckers

The Vice President of the United States used his social media page to tell Joy Reid, a private citizen with no connection to the government, that she should express "gratitude" for how this country has treated her.

Black women remain the most consistent targets in all of this.

The Trump White House: This shutdown is actually the fault of Democrats and we, the good guys, want to keep the government open and operating

Also the Trump White House:
A creepy AI image of creepy Russ Vought somehow made creepier by looking like a Midwestern retirement home's version of the Grim Reaper, but it's a mix of creepiness and utter sadness at the same time?

Imagine the most pathetic loser you know and then, I don't know, double it?

Universities considering capitulating to the Trump “conditions” should use this real world example to understand they will simply be destroying their own institution. bsky.app/profile/nich...

Chris Rufo's disastrous takeover of New College in Florida shows what universities would become if they sign the Trump regime's extortionary "compact."

New College was supposed to model the anti-woke conservative higher-ed Americans crave. Instead, it showed the opposite, and serves as a warning.

I’m sorry you’ve had that experience with reviewers. I’ve mostly seen more positive comments from folks appreciating any practices being reported (sharing data or code). But it is a good reminder to celebrate any movement in this direction.
jdmiller.bsky.social
But we’ve literally been giving out gold stars (badges) for years and the pick up is remarkably low. And, I don’t know any OS folks who would criticize someone for making any good faith effort to engage in any of the practices.

I was mostly just joking and pointing out that some of us weirdos actually like fishing shows. But my wife and daughter would probably prefer I watch data being analyzed to the fishing shows.

I love the idea that we’ll see change in clinical psych re: open science adoption when the messaging tone changes. lol.

What fishing show? (As someone who obsessively watches fishing videos on Youtube.)

Faculty, alums, students and staff at universities across the country. Time to stand up. Your presidents and trustees need to hear from you. Stiffen their spines. Just say no to extortion.

Trump's higher ed ransom note is here - everyone would have to acquiesce to their unprecedented demands or not be "given priority for grants," plus they can demand "reimbursement" for "violations" www.wsj.com/us-news/educ...

A mechanism to enforce fealty. An attack on academic freedom and democracy

But how do we know that we're getting full transparency between what you report in your manuscript and your running notes? Are your notes uploaded and time stamped for public consumption? I think there can be a lot of forgetting (motivated and not) and biases in such an approach, conscious or not.

So fucking depressing. Like, soul crushing at times.

New paper led by @drlynam.bsky.social on the need for more training in and engagement with open science practices in clinical psych programs. It has been difficult to make progress due to a variety of barriers, including students working in labs uninterested or hostile to these approaches.

Good morning.

The government is shut down because Trump wants to act like a king and steal from you.

Democrats have no obligation to support a budget that funds the destruction of our democracy - and DOUBLES health premiums to fund a tax cut for billionaires.

Remember how lefties used to say "abolish ICE" back in the 2010s, and got roundly scolded by the centrists for it ever since, and now events have shown beyond a shadow of a doubt that they were 1000% on the correct side of history, but somehow they're still being scolded? Fun.

Increase in productivity since 1979: 87%

Increase in hourly pay since 1979: 32%

Just so happens that ~25% of workers were unionized in 1979. Today? 10%.

As unions declined, the super-rich have taken a larger share of wealth generated by labor. We must build back union power.
