Honestly, unless Kathy does right by the players, #Unrivaled is the main women's basketball I'm watching for the year. I rather buy a flight to a Unrivaled game, over driving 1 hour for a Fever game if Kathy wants to screw over the players.

Facerig and motion capture is used in video games and its all CG (computer generated), same as Avatar. A ton of video game artist also work on CGI cartoons. Lets just use more of that tech in "cartoons" and lets really face that its all together.

All that said, the bigger issue we have with Avatar and its marketing is how they dont want to call it a animated film. If they called a spade a spade we would have more people wanting to use Facerig, motion capture and other tech in general animation projects (TV, online, etc)

What makes Avatar amazing is the Facerig and acting on a CG model. We dont get that, this well, on any other form of cartoons. All the way back to classic disney days artist have used video and references to model face movements but the facerig tech takes it to the next level.

As a veteran; a lot of us join b/c we're either poor, need some kind of advancement in life (job training, school, etc) or some have societal pressures to join. We all know we may have to do something we don't want to and pray we don't have to. Get out of poverty or die trying 😓

I'm being super vague because the movie is so new, I don't want to spoil it. Later on I'm going to spoil the movie and talk about how it's really a cartoon with 5 human scenes.

This movie could have been 3 small movies. It narratively raised and fell so many times and even came to a conclusion 3 times. Mainly what made it feel so long was how it drug out simple plot points that are important but not 45 minutes of run time important. We the viewer can get the message.

To seriously shorten how a movie's action scene works (heroes are winning, heroes start to lose and all seems impossible, big swing happens and heroes win over a great odd) This happens in the movie no less than 6 times in the movie! It felt like it should have been over so many times.

I have to say it, Pop Tarts are not dumb. It's a very serious breakfast treat that can be eaten hot or cold. Shout outs to strawberry pop tarts, you got me through hard times and long bus rides 🫡

Then Satou, a person she feels is the only thing lower than herself. In the end her relationship with Satou is kind of doomed unless she finds a good "Meaning" that isn't predicated on someone else. Looks what happens when that "someone else" leaves.

One. Look at Satou's dad for example. The system failed him, he lost his job and he lost his "meaning in life". He hates himself b/c he can't support his family and what other identity is there in that society. Satou jumps around searching for meaning. Misaki stopped searching for anything other

Doesn't work. The joke is "there is a conspiracy holding everyone down", but the real situation is it's the governments failure to meaningfully provide for its people who get lost in the cracks of society. Its failure to provide mental healthcare or support unless you have a job or working toward

Also not really doing anything but play along with her guardian and watch Satou. Each character is alone in some way even if they have a job, are able to socialize and don't, or are even in a relationship. Misaki honestly has it worse than Satou b/c she is better at masking, b/c she tries and it

I'm not saying it's always bad to not have a end goal but don't give me a show/anime/comic and make me care like the character will have real growth when I know it will never end.
December 13, 2025 at 8:34 PM
Not having a ending is part of the point. It's leverage to keep making more. No ending means no greater plot, just plot arches. Batman will never end. Plot arches may end but there is no greater plot to reach, ever. At best we get a reset of the character. It makes for piles of retcons and resets.

FMA: Brotherhood did it right. It has the finished manga to go off of. Take something like Dragon Ball (any of them) sure we have some winging it but the parts you like are all planned out. Anime is allowed to have a end point unlike a lot of other media. In the west it almost never hurts to end.
December 13, 2025 at 8:34 PM
If it's not a manga written to have a through line then the anime has the manga to make a clear through line. Let's take Full Metall Alchemist for example. FMA didn't know where to go, they had to wing it. Once that started happening it got bad. Bad FMA is still better than 70% of other anime.
