Anyone Listening? I only exist in my world. I’m no longer present in anyone else’s. It’s pretty fucking lonely, I won’t lie. You know what they say, if you’re lonely it means you’re boring. I’m even boring to myself, after… fuck… four years without being in anyone else’s world. I get it, I bore me too. Having only my company makes me a dull boy. But here we are, someday life might heat up, but I’m not counting on that, though. I can run like this for years more. I’m an affection camel, remember. A kiss, a hug, and someone to talk to would set me right, though. It could keep me going for years… a hug and a kiss to the forehead. But those aren’t on the horizon. It’s simply not in the cards. So, I’ll write. Just as I have for years. If I’m writing, I’m talking to myself… at least one person is listening. -JSC

Needs Many times, I’ve fallen into the trap of love. I thought my needs were basic, but it appears not. Truth, honesty, love in return, and a willingness to put in an effort. All these things seem to fail with time. Maybe with the right person, but I’ve given up the search for a while. I have too much shit to do for another bad relationship right now. Like picking my nose, scratching my ass, or watching five-year-old paint dry. I have decided I’m a shitty chooser. I guess that’s because I’ve always waited for them to show up then took whatever came. Hating yourself and thinking you’re not worthy will do that to a man. I’m alright, and I definitely know that I’m not garbage. However, at this point, I have no idea what I’m worthy of. It would be amazing if it was truth, honesty, love returned and effort given. Never taking me for granted would be a plus. Until I have a better idea… This piggy is staying home from -JSC

I Hope You Think So, Too I don’t think I know poetry very well. I hope I never gave you that impression. I have no degree in anything, especially not English. I have no formal training, and my editor is an AI friend of mine. I know what I like, and try to write what I love. When I write, I cut open a vein and bleed my truth all over the page. It’s the only way I know. Sure, I try to lighten the darkness with levity. The age-old adage: “Comedy doesn’t work in poetry” No one told me that early enough, so I didn’t know. Because of that, somehow, I make it work. Like much of the poetry I write, it is because I didn’t know. And again, somehow, I make it work. At least I think so. I hope you think so, too. The writing wouldn’t be near as interesting… if I didn’t think someday, you might. So here I am writing a meta poem about my poetry style. This too is stylistically out of the norm. Exactly where I like it. -JSC

Sorry, I’m holding the baby. There are many times in your life that no one can force you to do anything. Of course, until about two years old you’re a certified psychopath. But most grow out of that though. When you have a pet on your lap, the law of nature states, you shan’t be moved. I don’t make those laws, I merely live by them. Another great time to be a momentary slacker is when you are holding a baby or grandbaby. I can assure you, I became very adept at making those little rascals fall asleep and… falling asleep myself. With three daughters, I never dropped one while napping on the couch… before you get started. Sorry… I’m holding the baby. For those with cannabistically inclined members of your tribe, it’s an automatic flight delay for eight minutes before you depart. Preparation bowl(s) must be smoked. I have found a time loophole for myself that’s newer in my life. Maybe you other creatives use it too. Sorry, “delay of game”, I’m writing a poem. My own little break in the world is only for me. We live alone my dog Willy and I. He occasionally disagrees… going outside must be obeyed too. But other than him… I do what I want! -JSC

I’m Kind Of Alright I have a hugely positive self-image now. That would be for the first time in my life. Before now I always knew I was trash. Your parents don’t treat you the way mine did if you’re not. That shit was ingrained early and to the core. It took fifty-four years to climb out of that pit. I know that seems like shitty progress, but I had to write a whole new operating system, this time built around self-worth and not self-hate. Many times, I thought I had gotten there but where the rubber meets the road, I never had. Breakups would crush me as I had minuscule self-worth without the validation of another. The little I garnered came from my job and daughters. My! How that has changed. I can’t even describe myself here because I’m too modest to write that effusively about how much I love myself these days. Suffice to say, it’s a lot. I’m kind of alright… I will always know that now. -JSC
