#Queer writer of #YA and speculative fiction. Expect lots of Star Trek references. Failing to meet the demands of capitalism since 1969. Can I pet your dog? https://linktr.ee/rickerje and https://ko-fi.com/jeffreyricker
If you’re not familiar with @nathanburgoine.bsky.social’s writing, this novella is a great place to start. Found family, queer joy, and romance. You really can’t go wrong. #BookSky
Hey #BookSky — if you’re looking for some novellas for your end-of-year goal, and you’re also feeling the mood now the snow is flying (if you’re somewhere like me, anyway), my indie stories are all available in #KoboPlus, which includes "Handmade Holidays" (gay romance holiday novella).

Beyond supporting an author’s work (and yes, it absolutely helps with that), a review can also provide—speaking for myself here—a much needed encouragement to keep doing what I'm doing.
Okay, because I need to try and re-spark some writing community joy after… *gestures at everything* how about a revisit on a way you can absolutely support authors you love for zero dollars: by dropping a low-stress, three-sentence review somewhere.

Why are you so weird, boy?
Charlie, are you queer, boy?
When I make a play, you’re pushing me away
Charlie, are you queer?
And after you kissed me, Charlie Brown, I always used to wipe my mouth

New queer holiday romances! Tell us about ’em.
Officially asking now for author folks (and reader folks) to tell me about the new queer holiday romances coming out this year—I don’t know why I’m having trouble finding them this year, but I am.

Drop 'em here, please.

(Bonus if low-angst; also happy for sapphic—this is not just a dude zone).

Yeah, this week's It's Storytime, Swarm X1048 - Ethological Field Report: Canis Lupus Familiaris, '6'" by F.E. Choe, is a beautiful story that sneaks up, quietly slips its hand around your heart, and squeezes it until you think it's going to break.

I love that so many listeners love it, too.

Moonstruck
Star Trek IV: The One with the Whales

Wow, this was difficult. I almost forgot Moonstruck was an ’80s film. Also, I debated between Star Trek II or IV. And it pained me to leave out The Empire Strikes Back, Working Girl, many others. (Steel Magnolias!)
Name your top 4 80s films.

I missed last night’s #WeeknightWriters chat for not-fun reasons I won’t go into, but the topic, writer’s block, is one that’s near and dear* to me. @nathanburgoine.bsky.social's thread in response offers a number of good insights.

*By which I mean “I fucking hate it.”
The thread from quite a while back, and—again—I totally believe it’s well meaning. I do. Still really, really makes me twitch every time.

#WeeknightWriters
Every time I hear someone—most of the time a well-meaning someone—say, "I don’t believe in writer’s block," I lean hard into the "well-meaning" part, but as someone who does, absolutely, run into what most of us mean by "writer’s block" on the regular, it can be hard not to just flip the bird.

I haven’t really felt like myself lately, because *flaps hands* reasons. Where Holly Golightly had Tiffany’s to deal with the mean reds, I have books. Specifically, this charming Christmas novella by @nathanburgoine.bsky.social. It was time for a reread. #BookSky

Congratulations, Admiral!
I am honored that our show, Star Trek: Prodigy, is nominated for @theemmys.tv for both Outstanding Writing and Outstanding Multiple Role Voice Performer. I love Janeway and portraying her is a delight, in all her forms.

This is still perhaps my favorite acting moment in all of Star Trek.
