It's one thing to lament loss of life and decry political violence, but this revisionism is shockingly dishonest and downright offensive to the millions of people Kirk targeted and upon whom he inflicted pain and misery. The man was a liar and a bigot who gladly hurt others to advance himself.
The best way to honor Charlie's memory is to continue his work: engage with each other, across ideology, through spirited discourse. In a democracy, ideas are tested through words and good-faith debate — never through violence.

Political violence disproportionately hurts people with less power, not people with more power. Political violence will disproportionately hurt people of color and women and LGBTQ people. It’s not fair, but that’s the way it works. Celebrating political violence means at best indifference to that.

Democrats: What do we need to do to win back disillusioned voters?

Voters: Stand up to Trump and fight him like our lives depend on it.

Democrats: Alienate our base while we chase bros who will never vote for us. Got it.

Voters: That's not-

Democrats: Can you give us five dollars right now?
