Mandatory internet labeling laws have been rejected over and over again as unconstitutional. I don't see how this passes any level of scrutiny. Which @agounardes.bsky.social was told multiple times by constituents (some of whom shared this with me). His response was to call them big tech shills.
Sure looks like New York will require Bluesky to carry a warning label, since it offers a feed with "like counts". And maybe AO3, on account of its displaying "kudos"?

section 230 is necessary for a free and open internet.

if you actually cared about kids, you would

1. impeach the current president
and
2. enact sweeping data privacy legislation for adults and minors alike

but youre not doing that, instead youre targeting the thing keeping the internet alive
December 18, 2025 at 10:21 PM
Section 230 is the cornerstone of the modern Internet. Children won't automatically be protected if it is repealed. Solve the real problem for crying out loud.
Just once, I'd like to see Dick Durbin *try* to explain the actual mechanisms by which repealing 230 will protect children from being exploited and abused. There will be hand waving about how it will "open them up to litigation" but that's not an answer.
Children are being exploited and abused because Big Tech consistently prioritizes profits over people.

Enough is enough. Time to sunset Section 230.

Rosen picked the wrong example here. She should have picked 60 Minutes, which also edited Trump to make him look better. Then it would have been apples to apples.

Again, letting Carr off the hook by using a cable news example (not regulated by FCC) is a bad choice.
ROSEN: Will you commit to opening an investigation into Fox News for deceptively editing a Trump interview to make him look good during a presidential campaign?

CARR: No

I recall that over a decade ago, @barackobama.bsky.social put out a vaguely favorable statement regarding net neutrality, and the Ajit Pai/Brendan Carr folks in the FCC absolutely lost their minds, screaming "WE'RE AN INDEPENDENT AGENCY, HOW DARE HE TRY TO INFLUENCE US."
And guess what?

The FCC immediately changed the website to state that the agency is not independent right after Carr's comments!

Common misconception of Section 230. Get out of jail doesn't exist here and it is demonized. Follow @mmasnick.bsky.social for actual facts on this and all trust and safety issues.
I see this argument made all the time and it's embarrassing for CCDH to keep making it, because it's a lie. Section 230, what they're talking about, does not give anyone a "get out of jail free" card. It simply puts the liability on the party who actually engaged in the violative behavior.

Why on earth is any Democrat voting for ANYTHING that Trump wants?

EVEN IF there were a valid reason not to be moving on impeachment (and there isn't!) continuing with business as usual puts the sledgehammer being wielded against our democracy in their hands.
11 Senate Democrats just voted to advance the nomination of a Federal Society judge who used to defend banks and payday lenders:
